A Yahoo survey says that 44 percent of Americans report a likelihood of shutting off NFL games should players continue to kneel for the national anthem.
The poll result follows Nielsen ratings showing that many fans already do something else beside watching football this season. Monday Night Football endured its lowest ratings earlier this week since moving to ESPN a decade ago and Sunday games also suffer year-to-year losses, albeit smaller than the double-digit decline witnessed at the Worldwide Leader in Sports. The absence of Tom Brady and Peyton Manning may help explain viewership losses. But another quarterback also not taking a single snap this young regular season undoubtedly suppresses ratings as well.
Almost a third of respondents expressed support for Colin Kaepernicks protests of The Star Spangled Banner. Nearly half opposed his demonstrations. About a fifth of respondents didnt know or didnt care about the protests.
The backup quarterback for the San Francisco 49ers began his pregame demonstrations during the preseason. He cited police brutality and racism as reasons for sitting and kneeling for the national anthem. He followed up his initial sit-down strike against the song by donning a Fidel Castro t-shirt at a press event, wearing socks at practice depicting policemen as pigs, and telling reporters that cosmetologists receive more thorough training than cops.
Roughly three in five fans told Yahoo that Kaepernick chose the wrong manner to protest.

Keep the cameras on the singer of the anthem or the band playing it, the troops, cops or scouts holding the flag. Then it becomes a non-issue. Since they made a policy of not showing morons who run onto the field on TV that has been reduced to near nothing.
Yeah, I don' like rasselin either!
so I hear the NFL's answer is to stop playing the NA when the dear little players are on the field...they'll play it well before the the oppressed take the field...
BS...all BS....
not watching tonite...won't be bothered...
LEt them protest. Just:
* Don’t put the camera on anybody doing an act of disrespect when they do whatever
* Direct camera shots of the flag, the singer/band, and those in the crowd expressing appreciation for the flag and the song
* Don’t report who did what in acts of disrespect after the anthem like you are reporting stats for number of receptions in the game
All this could be done with a quick conference and agreement between the NFL and the covering networks. If the offending “protesting players” abruptly quit getting coverage, maybe they’ll just give up the childish behavior. IF they want to spout off about it in post-game interviews, fine, who really follows all that garbage anyway?
I expect the networks to stay with the jock talk in the studio and cut to the stadiums AFTER the National Anthem and make no mention of the low lifes not standing.
What’s the NFL?
Black and wigger lives don”t matthah!!!
How many of us will never turn it back on?
Already did.
Since he HATES America why does he accept and use American dollars??
1. The NFC have the Cowboys, a team everyone follows (love them or not!).
2. NFC eams like the Philadelphia Eagles, Seattle Seahawks, Green Bay Packers, New York Giants and Washington Redskins have a lot of fans--and this year, the Eagles are off to a promising start with Carson Wentz at quarterback, who's proved that him playing at North Dakota State didn't hurt his chances of success in the NFL.
However, with that Black Power salute by three Eagles players and now Kaepernick being the cover story in TIME, I think the decline could steepen over the next few weeks.
Why cover protests? Cover football or forget it.
Please, football fans, boycott these jerks. Let them feel it in their wallets.
I’m not watching, even though my team is 2-0 and may have the most dynamic combination of receivers in a while.
44 percent would be a BIG drop in audience. Do you think the NFL would get the message, or manage to learn teh wrong lesson?
I then exercise my rights as an ordinary American to stop watching the games, and purchasing the products advertised on those games.
The NFL is now based on commanding double digit increases in rights fees. Their house of cards will collapse when they no longer get those increases, and the Players Association is going to be unhappy too.
When does the NFL season start? I’ll make sure I won’t watch it.
I turned off the monday night Eagles game.
I will turn off any game where the slugs do what they have been doing.
When the nonsense stops, I will start supporting the NFL again.
Someone has “Cowherd” for a last name? LOL!
