It gets overlooked because it means nothing. DNA — or any other evidence — found anywhere means nothing without a chain of evidence. There is no reason to believe the “outside” DNA found at the crime scene came from the perpetrators any more than that it might have come from someone handling the DNA in the store or in the manufacture of the clothing.
