WASHINGTON Residue from an explosive compound found at the scene of an explosion in a New York City neighborhood is unregulated and routinely used for target practice with exploding targets.
The compound, known by the brand name Tannerite, is sold in sporting goods stores. It is not regulated by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives because it is sold as a mix of two chemicals that when kept separate are inert.

Tannerite is a binary explosive. It is made from urea (nitrogen fertilizer) and powdered aluminum.
Probably. If they have access to blasting caps I’d think they’d have access to det cord and more effective H.E too but who knows what falls off of trucks these days.
Do not mix lawn fertilizer with aluminum powder and then shoot it with a rifle. The government will not approve.
Been a couple of year and my experience was mostly limited to the mining industry, but everybody seemed to use ampho. I never saw det cord or other HE, but there seemed to always be blasting caps around.
But these guys were mostly interested in moving material.
And this is a “how to.”

Yeah, fertilizer and diesel fuel, they would mix it up by the ton, never tried to spell it though. When they said it, it sounded like ampho, LOL.
Any explosive can be used to set off another if the "primer" produces enough energy for the secondary. If a charge of Tannerite produces the same shock as a blasting cap, then off you go, so to speak.
Military grade explosives require powerful primers. C4, for example, cannot be detonated by shooting it. A military blasting cap or detonation cord must be used.
You watch too much television.
Yeah and they’re running out of time too. Getting desperate.
I’m not familiar with ampho, unless you mean ANFO (ammonium nitrate/fuel oil). I don’t think a blasting cap alone will initiate ANFO. I think there are three links in the ANFO chain: blasting cap, det cord/PETN, ANFO. The blasting cap sets off the det cord then the det cord sets off the ANFO. But I am certainly no expert regarding such stuff.
Complete BS designed to regulate a legal safe product.
Gasoline is a Million times more volatile.
interesting thanks
