I think many of those exorcisms were quickies done in the confessional. Not all exorcisms are long drawn out ordeals involving green vomit and head spinning. Also, I think that not all of them, or even most of them, were actual possession but obsession instead, which is simply being harrassed by demons but not possessed.

According to the dictionary an exorcism is the expulsion or attempted expulsion of an evil spirit from a person or place.

What you are describing sounds more like counseling.
