Clinton campaign, Blumenthal fight back against accusations of spreading 'birth rumor'

The Hillary Clinton campaign moved Saturday to further distance itself from the re-ignited controversy about President Obama’s birthplace and long-time Clinton confidant Sidney Blumenthal, saying neither Clinton nor the 2008 campaign “ever” questioned the president’s citizenship.

Donald Trump, Clinton’s Republican presidential rival, revived the so-called “birther” issue earlier this week when he declined to say definitively whether Obama is a U.S. citizen.

The controversy gained momentum Friday when former McClatchy D.C. bureau chief James Asher tweeted that Blumenthal “told me in person” that Obama was born in Kenya.

On Saturday, 2016 Clinton campaign spokesman Brian Fallon told Fox News: "As multiple, independent fact checkers have affirmed in the years since, neither the 2008 campaign nor the candidate ever questioned the president's citizenship or birth certificate."

The Clinton campaign on Friday made a similar effort to deny accusations about spreading the birth issue in 2008 -- when Clinton was in a hard-fought race with Obama for the Democratic presidential nomination.

Blumenthal of Saturday told Fox News that he didn’t tell McClatchy that Obama was born in Kenya.

“This is false. Never happened,” he said. “Period. Donald Trump cannot distract from the inescapable fact that he is the one who embraced and promoted the racist birther lie and bears the responsibility for it.”

Trump, a leader in the call for Obama to finally make public a copy of his Hawaii birth certificate, said on Friday the issue is over and called for the campaigns to move on with substantive issues.

Still, he blamed Clinton for starting the controversy.

Appears we were mistaken about this 2008 event because Sid Vicious again denies any wrongdoing: "Never happened."

Is he a trustworthy sort of human being or should we dig a little deeper than his latest denial?

Couple things ...

Does anybody expect Blumenthal to admit it?

Does anybody disagree that Democrats were advancing the argument to benefit Hillary?

The only argument left is "which Democrats?" with more specificity than being aligned with Hillary's interests.

Sweet that they are spending the weekend defending their actions from 2008. Trump is instead campaigning for November 8th.

It would seem that this forces the Clinton camp to take one of two approaches.... They have to either A) prove that James Asher made the whole thing up that Blumenthal “told me in person” that Obama was born in Kenya (and hope that Asher doesn’t have good enough back up to conclusively make that case) or B) claim that Blumenthal never really was part of Clinton’s team.

Yes, that helps. Absolutely the Clinton Crime Family would not rely so heavily on him over these last two decades if Blumenthal were NOT an honest, hard-working, American patriot or something.

Therefore, "Nothing happened," as Sid confessed to Faux News.

A Freeper recently wondered how this birther issue came up again out of the blue? I wondered the same.

I assumed the media set it up, but if they did it backfired big time. Trump lured the media into a press conference where he finalized the issue but not before getting the networks to air 50 more generals and top brass giving a Trump endorsement.

And even better, Trump shot the whole origination of the birther matter back onto to the Clintons where it belonged to begin with. I’d say that’s a twofur.

Their denials are only giving legs to the story that they are responsible. Their attempt to try to shame Trump failed. They more that they try to pin this on Trump the more of a tar baby this will become. It would be best for them to give it up but they won’t because they do not have anything else to go against him.

Blumenthal is the model for the Doug Stamper character on House of Cards.

Think Lanny Davis on steroids.

He is the Clinton hatchet man, and there is absolutely no way he was spreading the birther stuff without Clinton knowledge and/or direction.

He is SO filthy slimy that even Obama banned him from any role in the government... so Hillary just put him on a 10K PER MONTH Foundation salary.

Not even CNN is going to stand with Blumenthal against a Washington Bureau Chief in a contest of integrity.

Yes, we should ask these Clintonistas about Phillip Berg.

He is a Democrat, and he filed the very first lawsuit regarding Obama’s birth status.

I’ve always wondered, but have never heard anyone in the media ask : why would a good Democrat file a lawsuit which could upend the presidency of another Democrat????

I’ve never seen Phillip Berg on TV, or quoted anywhere. Where is he now?? With the birther stuff hot news right now, Phillip Berg should be all over cable TV talk shows.
