Libertarian presidential nominee Gary Johnson and the Green Partys Jill Stein will not be on the presidential debate stage for the first contest sponsored by the Commission on President Debates. Johnson and Stein both fell short of the 15 percent polling threshold required to participate, the commission said in a statement, adding that Trump and Clinton will face off on September 26 and their running mates, Tim Kaine and Mike Pence, will debate on October 4. Johnson in particular was pushing hard for inclusion in the debates, as hed polled in the double digits across several national surveys, and previously said he would only have a chance to win if he can debate Trump and Clinton.
In a statement, Gov. Johnson lamented his exclusion from the debate stages, writing: I would say I am surprised that the CPD has chosen to exclude me from the first debate, but Im not. After all, the Commission is a private organization created 30 years ago by the Republican and Democratic parties for the clear purpose of taking control of the only nationally-televised presidential debates voters will see. At the time of its creation, the leaders of those two parties made no effort to hide the fact that they didnt want any third party intrusions into their shows.

Good! It will be a waste of everybody’s time to have to listen to their drivel.
Good. Now Trump can dominate the stage and send Illary into a full blown coughing fit.
“That pic and the added word Who? just made my day. Thanks.”
You’re very welcome. That movie and especially that scene is very funny.
There is merit to your point but I have a hard time believing that libertarian votes are being pulled more from the liberal party. Sounds fishy.
Personally, I say this is complete bull squirt. I want more people attaching hillary. A moderator can deflect for on opponent, but not many.
Another Democrat dream down the toilet. Gary Toker Johnson was supposed to be half of Hillary’s tag team against Trump, talking over Trump and killing time for the felon.
As a Trump supporter and against crooked Hillary and her establishment I have mixed emotions. It wouldn’t bother me to see both the big two Parties lose their stranglehold. I’m concerned that as somewhat libertarian conservative it could take votes from Trump.
“It will be a sit down event if she makes it there.”
I wonder about that. Someone referred to the first debate as a Town Hall setting.
It should be standing, with a Bollard behind each candidate in case they feel overheated.
When Trump came to liberal Asheville he had a full house of about 6,000.
I guess his wife DIDN'T vote for him.
So - what’s the problem then with the world seeing this for themselves?
Maybe after Hillary strokes out 50 minutes in, Johnson could debate Trump for the last 40 minutes. That seems like a fair compromise.
Have the rules ever been bent? Afaik the third party has always reached 15% when included before.
There is also the guy who wears a boot on his head and wants to give everyone a pony and the guy who thinks the rent is too d*mn high.
I think it’s good to have just the two.
The math of whether a third party candidate would take more votes from Clinton or from Trump is far from certain, so I’m happy to put a damper on the whole third party effect.
Lots of undecideds are going to decide they’d rather have Trump if it is just Trump and Clinton on the stage.
For undecideds, I think having a third candidate on the stage is like staring at a menu with too many choices - they might remain undecided and cast their vote for the third party as a proxy for their ‘undecidedness’.
I’d rather force them to choose between the two.
Also, the optics of three on the stage would be unfavorable to Trump, as they would surely put Clinton the center.
I like that ides, a loud piercing sound so she pulls earpiece out right there on stage for everyone to see.
