Dems lost 172,000 voters. GOP gained 44,000 voters. UAF lost 425,000 voters. Interesting. Don't know if this is enough to put PA in play but curious nonetheless.

The key here is “unaffiliated.” In OH, those are merely people who didn’t vote in the primary, so if they were Ds who didn’t vote in the primary, nothing is gained. But I don’t think PA has the same rules.

However, you’re right, this isn’t a big change, except that we’re looking at a still-large pool of “indies.”

However, I’ll take +216,000 net vs. a victory margin of 310,000 in 2012? Yeah, that means Trump only needs about 52% of indies to win.

Different than OH. When you register, you state which party you belong to or align with. Easy to pick party in PA unlike OH. And can change parties also relatively easily.

Just checked 2012 results. Victory margin was 287,000 for Obama.

I’m surprised UAF went down.

Actually, the more I look at this, it’s great. The massive loss of unaffiliated reflects PA population loss I’m guessing. Considering that Trump leads this group, I think PA looks pretty good.

One reason for the drop in unaffiliated voters is that PA is a closed primary state. Few to zero offices can be voted on in a primary if you are unaffiliated.

We had quite a few unhappy campers who turned up to vote in our April primary who couldn't vote in the presidential contest as unaffiliated.

I read an article a couple of days ago that said the dems gained in the urban areas and the reps gained in rural, so it was a wash. There’s so much conflicting information out there.

Well these are statewide totals to takes urban/suburban/rural into account. Apples to apples comparison.

PA, in a small attempt to control voter fraud, requires the voter rolls to be periodically cleansed. That is to keep people who move a lot (or college students) from being registered multiple places in the state and voting more than once. They send you a copy of your voter registration to the address on the registration; if it comes back undeliverable or moved, they remove you from that counties registration.
