The Seahawks have announced their plans for Sundays pregame ceremony. According to receiver Doug Baldwin, they will stand together during the national anthem. They will do so with their arms interlocked. We are a team comprised of individuals with diverse backgrounds, and as a team we have decided to stand and interlock arms in unity, Baldwin says in the 42-second video posted at his Twitter page. We honor those who have fought for the freedom we cherish, and we stand to ensure the riches of freedom and the security of justice for all people. Progress can and will be made only if we stand together.
“Im thinking theyre going to show respect for the anthem and show them as being united in that respect. Am I missing something?”
You’re missing: (1) Their hands won’t be over their hearts which is appropriate. (2) The statement indicates this is all about THEM, and DIVERSITY.

“Seahawk haters will pile on them no matter what they do.”
What they’re doing is disrespectful to America. I’m not a “Seahawk hater”. I know/care nothing about sports. I know nothing about Seahawks, except that they’re a football team. When people here in E. TN, where “Sports” is a religious denomination, are discussing a team, I have to ask if it’s football or basketball, that’s how much I don’t care about sports. I DO care about respect for America.
BS
How white of them.
OMG!! Great point!! NONE of them will have their hands over their hearts!
NO...BenLurkin explained that this way NONE of them will have their hands over their hearts!!!!
NONE of them will have their hands over their hearts!! NOBLE my arse.
TRY interlocking your arms and then put your right hand over your heart......I’ll apologize if they DO put their hands over their hearts!
WTH? If they want unity, why can’t they just stand there as a team with their hands over their hearts like all the rest of Americans? That’s unity.
Exactly what I was wondering.
You love in Seattle.....I lived their in downtown for 5 years...im my precinct there were 11 Republicans and 753 DEMOCRATS!! Democrats are NOT known for their patriotic attitudes....most of them HATE AMerica.
Oh my goodness. To say you were outnumbered is a massive understatement. That had to be hard.
I’m ok with them standing. While the official position is hand over the heart, I’ll meet them halfway on this. The military salutes, the civilians have hands over hearts, and interlocked arms of performers can represent unity...e pluribus unum.
As opposed to jumping up and down, swaying, holding their shoulder pads, kneeling, certainly not singing...
If we had anyone left in the military with any balls, They would issues a statement like “ Due to the hostile attitude towards the playing of the national Anthem, The US Military will be pulling ALL ads from NFL games. Also, There will no longer be fly overs by US military jets or any other aircraft or will US Military personnel be there in uniform. Also, AFN will cease showing NFL games.
Hit them in the pocketbooks and see how fast the NFL caves.
I did live in Seattle... I just moved to Arizona. This state still has it’s issues (*cough* McCain *cough*) but the political climate is easier to deal with.
You answered my question.
What are they doing? Forming a Daisy Chain?
I disagree. What they did in the face of the individual “me too” antics was beautiful and appropriate. They chose to do something that shows inclusion, as a team. They honored the flag and what it stands for.
Yes, the Flag Code does call for the hand to be over the heart except for military and veterans. But I wonder how many people really know that? I never did, I had to look it up. But then I’m accustomed to standing at attention.
