FYI: 300Hz to 4 kHz would be the audio baseband bandwidth of the channel. This signal would have to be modulated/multiplexed onto a much higher RF carrier frequency (transmit/receive), most usually the UHF band with some types of these devices, and likely between 606 MHz to 614 MHz.

I believe some broadcasters also use Bluetooth-based units for in-ear monitoring. BT runs in the 2.4 GHz ISM RF band and employs frequency hopping techniques with the carrier modulated using Gaussian Frequency Shift Keying (GFSK). Not sure what the audio baseband BW is for these, but I would think it would be broader than 4kHz.

4kHz (actually 300Hz - 3300Hz) is the baseband bandwidth of the Plain Old Telephone System receivers. Note that for simple human intelligibility in a voice system, wider BW's (like stereo @ 15Hz - 22kHz) are unnecessary, and thus you save a lot of bucks on bandwidth.

That is not an actor and he is NOT a Naval officer.

He is retired United States Navy Reserve Chief Culinary Specialist Oscar Flores.

The only reason he could be there in uniform is because it was a Memorial Day parade and not a political event. Cough, cough, sure it wasn't.

Seriously, is there any reason to jam it? Hillary has already laid down her positions, so what she says won't be any surprise to anyone. Trump on the other hand will bring something brand new to the debate and the Hillary camp will strain in a vain attempt to smear him. Trump's going to walk away in all three debates, and the worse the moderators are, the better he'll do. Hillary is simply a temporary obstacle in his path which he will kick aside.

There certainly is a reason to jam it. Neither side should have any unfair advantage. She already has 3 liberal debate moderators who will work for her. I would not be surprised if Hillary's people were found to be involved with debate question development/selection. I would also assume that at a minimum the questions will be leaked to her people in advance.

I hope Trump and his people are taking the debates very very seriously. There is a lot at risk and they could swing the election either way. I hope his people are smart enough to train him on how to deal with the usual Democrat tactics. Questions that deal with minute details of certain laws or foreign policy issues must be deflected skillfully otherwise he'll look like an idiot trying to bluff his way through them. I expect the usual array of questions on abortion, LGBT crap, women's issues, and other "soft" issues with limited hard treatment to the economy, real employment data, serious immigration/refugee, the military, etc..

Well a Navy Enlisted....but point taken.

(black leather instead of gold braid chinstrap above the visor and no shoulder boards is enlisted (likely a chief petty officer, but I can’t see the sleeve)

“300Hz to 4 khz. Very narrow range. Easily jammed.”

Narrow, indeed. That isn’t even RF. Heck, I can hear 4Khz even with my tinnitus!

it would be really interesting to have a high-quality scanner in the venue. Those folks talking about taking a jammer would be ill advised to do so, as triangulating on such a signal would be childs play for the SS.

In any case, he needs to be careful about disgracing that uniform.

Feeling is mutual and SS has no obligation to make sure her earpieces can work.

Yes fine, i read that 300-4 khz in an article posted yesterday.

Whatever band range it can be jammed. Trump can afford one that can frequency hop if thats what it needs to do. Even partial jamming would make it very annoying and potentially useless noise.

Boy, that was fast. Hillary quickly changed her hairstyle to cover both ears, and I'll bet you $10 Grand her hairstyle for the debates will cover both ears

Now that is deplorable.

tee-hee! :) She will never live that comment down. No way.

These devices have a very short range and use low power. The base transmitter sends to a receiver worn by the recipient and is transmitted to the earpiece via an inductive loop. See sample here.

They operate on a set of channels at predefined frequencies. From the example above: 57 Synthesized Channels in the 216-217 MHz LPRS Band Under FCC Part 95

That doesn't mean a jammer or non-FCC compliant transmitter couldn't over power the system the Clinton campaign is using.

I would do something like vary what she is hearing from a high volume screech, to music such as The girl from Impanema, to a dog barking, to fingernails on a blackboard, to any number of things.

If you could listen in to what is being said you could trigger a loud sound just at a key point and let Cankles try and figure out what she missed.

I have an old Optoelectronics “frequency counter” which is a “near field receiver” that will identify every broadcasting frequency, as they say, from DC to daylight starting with the closest. The Opto then will tune a broadband receiver to any frequency detected. It is what folks used to use to listen to cell phone calls before they were scrambled. You would get close to the caller, the frequency would be detected and the radio tuned and the conversation revealed. When the frequency changed due to a new cell tower the new frequency would be detected and so on.

All Trump needs to do is detect the frequency, record the broadcast and simulcast it. End of Hillary.

Really not a very complex task for a knowledgeable radio person.
