In 1932, Irving collaborated with Moss Hart for a Broadway musical, Face the Music, that was a significant hit. It satirized show business and the corruption in the NYPD that had chased Mayor Jimmy Walker out of City Hall a year earlier. The satire wasnt as sharp as Gershwins Of Thee I Sing, but it still had a lot of laughs. This song from the show would have a long life, including use in a Nescafe TV commercial in the Sixties.
Fred Waring also had a long life in the business, to include running refresher courses for music teachers in the Fifties.
