President Obama and Hillary Clinton arent the only ones having trouble identifying the religion of certain Middle Eastern descended terrorists.
At least one Muslim group wants the words Islamic terrorists entirely scrubbed from a new Owego, NY 9-11 memorial created to commemorate the 15th anniversary of the attack.
The Islamic Organization of Southern Tier, a New York state based Muslim activist group, told KTRK-TV that the words unfairly paint all Muslims with the same brush. Believing the inflammatory language could lead to anti-Muslim violence, the group would like the word Islamic scrubbed entirely, or even replaced with the words Al Qaeda to describe the attackers.
Because if the word Islamic is left off that monument, maybe people wont know the attackers were Muslim. I mean, they could just as easily have been Jewish, or Christian, or Buddhist. After all, everyone knows Buddhists are just as statistically likely as Muslims to commit devastating acts of terrorism on Israeli and Western targets, right?
So far, to his credit, Owego town supervisor Donald Castellucci is standing his ground. He says the monument is accurate and will not be altered.
I dont live in a politically correct world, Castellucci said. I live in a historical fact world and terrorism whether its American homegrown, Christianity, Islamic you call it what it is.
According to Castelluci, the memorial isnt about religion, but is in memory of one event on one day that killed more than 3,000 people.
The memorial reads:
