...too bad Trump goes second.
Had he gone first, he could of (and should have) said a lot of inflammatory stuff that would get her goat, and have her come onstage feeling all attacked and besieged. It well might have made her blow a gasket live, and in color.

He can still do that and that will force her to go on TV and try to refute what he’s said. That’s when she can blow a gasket. He did the right thing.

He can do the same, on a more long-lasting basis, by simply replying to her lies with truth.
She’ll think it’s hell.
Do we know that they will be able to hear each other—or will the second participant be sequestered during the first session?
And the whole 2nd half is her and the host talking about how mean he was, and ignoring everything he said.
And people here will be blowing a gasket.
Now he controls the last impression of the night, and anything he says will not get an on-stage rebuttal.
I think it is better that he goes 2nd. With her going first, she can lay out some new webs of lies, and he can take them apart one by one....
I watch a lot of MMA fights and it’s well known that the judges tend to give more weight to the activity that happens toward the end of a round. Fighter A can with the first 3 1/2 minutes of a round and then Fighter B can win the last 1 1/2 minutes and it’s fairly likely that the judges will give the round to Fighter B.
Same with this scenario. Trump will have his say after Illary has lied about hers, so the viewers are far more likely to walk away with a positive impression of Trump’s performance and ideas. It’s a smart move for him to have made.
The main difference between the debate and my analogy above is that Trump will likely demolish Illary for the entire time he’s on stage.
I agree with you if you win the toss take the ball, never give up the opportunity to score!
Needs to wait for that for the actual debates.
