The people getting whacked over there are drug pushers. Its an epidemic. The Philippines isn’t the US. Its more like Mexico. Do you think the drug cartels will be wiped out through the judicial system? Not likely. Obama needs to STFU and so does the UN and let this guy do what the Phillipino’s elected him to do.

Yes, exactly! This is in line with what I’m hearing as well. I game a little, with many PH from all over the country (m and f), and they all say the exact same thing. A few were for other candidates during the election a few months ago, but those same people are in no way opposed to Duterte, now that he’s running things.

From my knowledge, shabu (in English, crystal meth) is the main drug targeted by Dutuerte. It’s cheap, nasty, and destroys families and cities.
While it would have been nice to give every dealer a full-blown trial, the problem was so out of hand that they started just the same way that Duterte did. As the problem begin to get under control, so did the judicial processes and niceties we enjoy in the first world. When I last was in Singapore at the turn of the century, the number of extra judicial killings had been zero for several years and the number of people hanged for drug pealing was down to about 200 per year, far fewer than the number of drug related killings in a typical American city the size of Singapore (say, Houston). So they had the best of both worlds-- near zero drug related crime with all the judicial niceties.
Indonesia took the Singapore model even a step further. As in most societies, there was less than 2% of the population who committed more than 98% of the crime. The cops would make a point to visit the less than 2% and issue them stern warning. If the warnings went unheeded, they disappeared in various creative was such as street fight where there were no witnesses which could be found.
Of course, this sounds abhorrent by American standards, but when society develops into Southside Chicago standards everywhere, it becomes a far better choice than allowing the deterioration to grow and spread.
The populace overwhelmingly supports this trade-off much as Dodge City, Fort Smith and other towns on the American frontier supported the same type of thing when their towns needed cleaning up.
