Not unusual to open these terminals in phases as it's quite necessary for cost recovery to start operations as soon as can be done efficiently, and safely. I recall when we opened ITS back in 1971 at the temporary site on T.I. using Shipstainers on three small self sustained vessels. Colorado, Oregon, and Montana Maru's. I sort of wish it was then now.

Perhaps this new Mombasa terminal will be named after that city’s most famous child, bho?

The only reason this project is underway is because of the Chinese.
From Mombasa, oil and other raw matters will be shipped to the Pakistani port of Gwarda.
There the goods will be shipped over the Karakoram Highway and into China.
This will allows the Chinese to bypass all the choke points held by their adversaries - The Indian Ocean, Straits of Malacca, The Philippines, South China Seas.

Only good thing I remember about Mombasa is Tusker beer (ice cold and cheap) and nearby Neali Beach hotel.

Roland searched the Continent,
For the man who'd done him in.
He found him in Mombasa,
In a bar room drinking gin.

If I cut myself, I bleed Zevon lyrics. I did that from memory, typing on my iPhone. I’ll give you two a break, because it’s a holiday weekend—but you guys need to dial it up a notch. :)

Like the sound of a running down Calliope...
I had to look up Van Owens’ name.

I do too. I was in a position to be first poster, but I got interrupted.
