Easier way and more effective.
Drill a few holes through the hard drive, this takes out the chips, mechanical control mechanisms and tears perforations in the media. The media contains nano-sized bits of iron.

Next, take your kitchen sink and fill it with warm water and add some table salt and some bleach. Soak the hard drive in this overnight. In the morning, drain the sink and toss It, wet the garbage. Let chemistry do its magic. Between the bleach removing the oils, the salt water will corrode the iron and oxidize it to the point of non-recovery.

Quick, easy and done.

Over the years I have had many computers. When I disposed of them I always took out the hard drive. I have nothing to hide but did have financial data on them. There is a stack of hard drives in my garage. I did not need to use bleach bit on them. I just put them in the stack of hard drives that are in the garage. I have nothing to hid.
