Mel Gibson confirms 'Passion of the Christ' sequel

Mel Gibson confirmed he's working on a sequel to his 2004 film "Passion of the Christ."

"And you know, it's not the 'Passion 2.' It's called 'The Resurrection,'" Gibson told evangelist Greg Laurie at SoCal Harvest, according to IndieWire.com.

Gibson explained that the sequel will focus on Jesus' resurrection.

"Of course, that's a very big subject and it needs to be looked at because we don't want to just do a simple rendering of it — you know, read what happened," the actor added.

"Passion of the Christ" screenwriter Randall Wallace told The Hollywood Reporter that "there's a lot more story to tell."

"The evangelical community considers 'The Passion' the biggest movie ever out of Hollywood, and they kept telling us that they think a sequel will be even bigger," Wallace said.

I heard the first one was filmed at Cinecitta studios in Rome.

There’s not a lot of room for artistic license in this story.

This is glorious news. “The Passion” was one of the greatest examples of modern Christian art I have ever seen.

He needs to leave out weird mystic visions from the screenplay.

Stick to the Bible, Mel.

An announcement that is destined to get a rise out of a lot of people.

Indeed. The nation and the world have become infinitely more hostile to Christians in the past twelve years.

Would have been nice if Mel had refrained from the anti-Semitic traffic stop rant as well.

It sounds like it might cover the time from the crucifixion to the ascension, which would be awesome. Rather than just another movie covering the book of Acts.

“Stick to the Bible, Mel.”

Mel is Catholic, and drawing from the rich history of The Church.

I saw it- it was one of the best made films I have ever seen

Every aspect of it

The acting, the cinematography, every other production category.

It was a filthy shame it was not given awards for best picture. And I would put it up there with the best of the best of all time.

I'm Catholic and even I will admit, that has diverged from the Bible on multiple occasions.

It was unique, and bold, and brilliant. And Mel Gibson financed it himself. His confidence paid off gloriously.
