Just when it seemed like the negative image of Donald Trump as a xenophobic, racist, and cartoonish excuse for a presidential candidate was permanently stained into most of the voters' minds, someone on his campaign staff had the brilliant idea to accept the invitation to meet Mexican President Enrique Peña Nieto in Mexico City.
And now that the meeting is over, and both Trump and Nieto have made their formal statements, it's clear Trump has been given a crucial presidential-looking shot in the arm from perhaps the one foreign leader we least expected to give it to him. But that's not where the positives for Trump end, not by a long shot.
Suddenly, we now have a new context for Trump's long-awaited speech on immigration. Before the meeting, Trump was facing a tough challenge. Several conservatives, and even one of his most ardent supporters in Ann Coulter, had been getting much attention as they accused Trump of flip-flopping on illegal immigration and especially the deportation question. There are reports the Trump campaign is hoping to gloss over deportation at least somewhat by focusing on securing the southern border with Mexico instead. That seems like it might be a tough needle to thread. But now that Trump is making the speech coming directly from that border, that new focus suddenly becomes more plausible.
The buzz is now about the Mexico meeting and fewer people are talking about deportation. And since President Peña Nieto himself made border security part of his own set of priorities in his portion of the news conference, this entire event is amounting to something of a home run for Trump and his quest for legitimacy.

the guy on CNN is near tears..im not kidding.
Yes Trump is the best of the best. He’s a better man than I am . If I had 10 billion I’d be on an island relaxing. Why he is risking it all ? For America . All politicians are corrupt . Trump is not . Politicians talk but no action And they never said anything against China. Only Trump can be trusted
Heh. Knocked the stuffing out of it.
agreed...complete body slam...im diggin all this. Sounded so strange for a ‘President” to actually show he loves his country. I was really worried about his security there today....its on for real now...the globalists are freaking out.
Truth. Trump. Win-win.
The fact is, we want the Mexican economy to be strong to discourage their citizens from coming to the US. Keeping Mexico poor doesn’t do us a bit of good.
And we all know everyone on staff was dying to join him there, including Rudy and Sen. Sessions.
It’s like all these years, we’ve let our neighbor across the street trash his home and thus degrade the whole neighborhood. Trump can see how this can make the home values rise in our western-hemisphere neighborhood.
Stoopid Press: Trying to manufacture a phony crisis:
WHO lied?
Nieto says he said Mexico will not pay for the wall.
Trump says they did not discuss it.
So reporters say Trump or Nieto lied.
But very possibly neither of them lied.
One party making a statement “We will not pay for the wall” does NOT constitute a “discussion” or a “conversation.”
Remember when familiarity with the English Language was necessary to get a job as a journalist?
But she has no problem at all getting to FUNDRAISERS!,......
These creeps MUST grasp at any opportunity to belittle and negate Trump. It will be really tough for them when they have to call him President Trump.
Bay Campeche oil and gas fields are playing out. Pemex can’t get the job done any better than Petróleos de Venezuela. Mexico is importing gas from US to run electrical generation.
They foresee a Venesuelan type collapse coming to Mexico down the road, dominated by a Colombian cartel like entity as government. A future as a satellite under influence of Iran, as Venezuela has recently been revealed to be.
Yeah, El Presidente did not look happy. Building the wall, stopping the flow of illegal aliens and illegal drugs, that is big, huge money business for the Mexican cartels, money that trickles down.
Mexico may not have the will to stop the cartels.
I think he’ll still have Mexico pay for it, with a twist. illegal immigrants with felonies will be deported. Those who stay will need to have an American citizen put forward a $5000 bond. The immigrants have five years to pay back that bond interest free at $1000/year. After that they become legal. Voila. If half stay, 25 billion dollars up front, the exact cost of the wall. And Mexico pays for it.
Where the hell did you get that bullshit?
Didn’t you listen to his speech?
I heard both speeches on the radio. I thought Trump knocked it out of the park. Very presidential.
Well, that was quick. Trump said Mexico would pay for the wall in his speech. So apparently he didn’t give up that bargaining chip but instead managed to hang on to it for later. At this point I’m actually a little puzzled by what President Nieto was thinking in inviting Trump to come down.
