Facebook Just Got a Whole Lot Creepier
Facebook Just Got a Whole Lot Creepier ^ | 30 August 2016 | Michael Krieger

I’ve been creeped out by Facebook for a long time now. The following story takes it to another level.

From Fusion:

While some of these incredibly accurate friend suggestions are amusing, others are alarming, such as this story from Lisa*, a psychiatrist who is an infrequent Facebook user, mostly signing in to RSVP for events. Last summer, she noticed that the social network had started recommending her patients as friends—and she had no idea why.

“I haven’t shared my email or phone contacts with Facebook,” she told me over the phone.

The next week, things got weirder.

Most of her patients are senior citizens or people with serious health or developmental issues, but she has one outlier: a 30-something snowboarder. Usually, Facebook would recommend he friend people his own age, who snowboard and jump out of planes. But Lisa told me that he had started seeing older and infirm people, such as a 70-year-old gentleman with a walker and someone with cerebral palsy.

“He laughed and said, ‘I don’t know any of these people who showed up on my list— I’m guessing they see you,’” recounted Lisa. “He showed me the list of friend recommendations, and I recognized some of my patients.”

If you or the other person has the facebook app on your mobile phone, facebook downloaded your contacts from your phone. Facebook then recommends friending people in your contacts who have facebook accounts.

That's just it. We've had two face to face meetings, and some landline phone conversations -- maybe half a dozen emails on my work computer. That's the extent of our "relationship". No contacts. Never called him from a cellphone. Nothing. Don't know how Facebook can make a personal connection from that, but the fact that they can freaks me out.

Unless they got the information from HIS cell and crossreferenced me.

Why would Zuckersperg’s team want to create potential conflicts of interest by recommending that a psychiatrist “friend” her own patients?

What’s the big deal? Two different people with Lisa in their address books (or phonebook) told FB to look through their book for friend suggestions, which spawned FB to suggest them to Lisa (since she’s in their book and all). Then FB figured since they both know Lisa they might both know each so it suggests them to each other. That’s been their basic algorithm since they first added to “scan my address book” feature, I get friends of friends suggested to me all the time. It’s not creepy, it’s data processing, and it didn’t just happen.

As a community property state the timing of the marriage means nothing. Everything that was his before the marriage became theirs the minute they got married. Unless he prenupped it out it’s theirs going into any divorce.

No he didn’t. He developed it based on a general idea they gave him. The end result was very different from what was suggested.

Yeah, I think so, too. It’s a Tower of Babel in a different form. And they’ve been trying many forms.

Remember, Obama said he was “a citizen of the world” — big surprise he puts America last and is actively working to dismantle it.

That’s what this “carbon footprint” nonsense is all about - de-industrializing America and brainwashing its youth to become “good global citizens”.
