The state-owned Aero-Engine Group of China was created by combining a group of existing aircraft-engine companies, according to local media reports.

It has about 50bn yuan ($7.5bn) in registered capital and will develop both military and commercial engines.

China already makes its own planes, but has struggled for decades to develop engines that meet global requirements.

'Strategic move'

China currently buys its commercial aircraft engines from General Electric and United Technologies' Pratt & Whitney. China's military jets uses Russian-made engines.

President Xi Jinping called the new creation of the new company a "strategi

Why not. They’ve stolen every secret that P&W, GE and Rolls ever had

Well,That should be rather easy for the Chinese. All they have to do is reverse engineer the engines they bought from the U.S. and Russia.

If the engines are made like Chinese consumer goods sold here, the engines will have alot of pot metal in them.

China, Russia, Iran, North Korea and others have enjoyed a very nice period where the USA decided to commit suicide, of course under the Obama years.

The US is now the laughing stock of the world. Her enemies rejoice and build up there Offensive military capabilities and her allies are scared and left dazed.

While China and Russia build the next generation of EVERYTHING (and test them in Syria), the US upgrades its fleet of P-40s...

Of course they will. Now that they’ve stolen it all the secrets from U.S. companies.

I’m not sure if that is a good idea. Getting jet aircraft engines to very high levels of reliability is extremely expensive to do. Look at all the money Rolls-Royce, GE Aero Engines and United Technologies (Pratt & Whitney) spend to make engines reliable.

From the article: “The Justice Department will spare no effort to hold accountable those who compromise U.S. national security for the sake of profits and then lie about it to the government,” Lisa Monaco, the assistant attorney general for national security, said in a statement.”

Lisa Monaco (is that a real name?) needs to follow through with prosecution of ALL who compromise national security and then lie about it - I can think about one Presidential candidate in particular. Plus, GE, United Technologies, Boeing and the others are all currently at the trough prepared for them by the Democrats. It was the same under the GOP establishment. Lots of folks value their personal gain over the well being of the Republic.

Who would have thought that Trump really is our last best hope?

They have been doing that for years and still can't turn out a reliable aircraft engine.

Easier said than done.

Particularly difficult is building first-stage turbine blades that won’t disintegrate under heat, airflow and centrifugal force.

There’s more to it than getting the shape and alloy right.

And they’ll be a drop-in replacement for the reliable but expensive versions. Wall St applauds!

It's not so easy to steal the manufacturing techniques of how to make turbine blades even if you have examples in front of you.

That's why they still have to buy Russian military jet engines for their Chinese knockoffs of Russian aircraft.

After all these years, in spite of all the hubbub concerning China’s inevitable dominance of the world, they STILL cannot make a decent jet engine. Neither commercial or military.

I guess we haven't sold them the machines to do it yet. We did sell them gear to build their own large wings.

They didn’t steal them, we gave them to China outright. The opening the west to China by Nixon all started with the U.S. giving China a one of a kind machining tool owned By Pratt and Whitney.
