Again, does not change the fact you are in their country playing by their rules.

That is crux of the argument

You can not apply American Justice values in Brazil, just like Muslims should not be allowed to apply Sharia Law here in the United States.

We can’t have it both ways

The best way, don’t do stupid child pranks, when you yourself is 32 years old, in a foreign land. They might not take your childish prank as funny and cute like we do here in America

Boomer based his argument in #1 on “damage done”. Since there is no compelling video evidence (?) showing Lochte or his companions caused any damage, let’s give Boomer the doubt and suppose he intended “even if damage was done by Lochte and the others”. I limited myself to that “finding of fact”.

The speculative side questions you raise in #96 convince me of only one thing, we will continue go nowhere in the absence of credible or conceded facts. (If you have a factual summary of the court proceedings in this instance, it would be interesting reading.)

As I and others have argued upthread, Lochte’s greatest and perhaps only offense may be that he, for his personal benefit, allowed a lie to his mother (?) to be spotlighted at the international level to the great embarrassment of the host country.

As an aside, current or future sponsors may well wonder if he would cause them to suffer similar embarrassment. (For example, see Colin K. and the 49’ers.)

For the umpteenth time ....

He said he was pulled over. Video shows they were at a gas station.

Okay, that effort to deceive is making me think that *YOU* are the liar in this narrative.

What sort of loony toons kook-bat do you have to be to assert that a drunk man being mistaken about being "pulled over" is a serious or relevant lie?

It is as significant as saying the cops were wearing "blue hats" when they were waring "red" hats. It is of no consequence in regards to the incident, and it is at most a very trivial mistake.

But you seem to think it is reasonable to call a man a liar on the basis of this inconsequential detail so as to call into question the fact (demonstrated by video) that he was indeed pulled out of a cab by four corrupt off duty Rio police officers who somehow were guarding a gas station in the middle of the night, and who pointed a gun at him while demanding cash.

Not only is your sense of priorities screwed up, it's looking like your ability to tell right from wrong also screwed up.

You say "For the umpteenth time", seemingly and completely unaware that it wasn't a reasonable example THE FIRST TIME YOU MENTIONED IT!

LOL! He didn’t look that drunk in the videos ...

So you've got your calibrated eyeballs set accurately enough to measure drunkeness?

I don't know about you, but if I had spent six hours drinking in a club, I would be pretty D@mn drunk.

And what was that stuff he and his mates were pissing out? Tea?

That’s not a punishment. It’s a financial decision.

It has to be the same when outside the USA as a citizen.

Again, my issue is not so much with what I regard as a corrupt third world police department as much as it is with people on our side who are *siding* with that corrupt third world police department.

Why are any of us going along with this made up baloney?

So far we have no proof of that

Sure the guard had a gun, was it at gun point? Only person saying that is the same drunk off his butt guy that created this whole BS story in the first place.

Not true. We have two Brazilian witnesses that claim the cops pointed a gun at him and demanded money. Did you not know that?

But hey, I am all for personal responsibility, Lochte, had absolutely no right to vandalize that property, nor his buddies.

Your thinking reminds me of a "Next Generation" Star Trek episode where Wesley Crusher falls on some flowers and the Planetary authorities demand he be put to death.

If you think this is about vandalism, you don't understand the nature of the corruption inherent in third world hell-holes.

The poster (if they even knew about it at the time) was just an excuse.

If you can boil it all down to a simple financial decision so be it. I don’t see it that way at all.

The good news is he still has his gold medal(s?). No one can take that away from him.

I do hope you always walk the exactly perfect straight and narrow because if you don’t and get hit sideways by a bunch of slander and lies undeserved; I hope you remember this conversation.

Where did I say lie?

I was not suggesting you did. I was using it as an example of how some of our Corrupt Brazilian police appologists would misconstrue something. Again, I didn't say that you did this.

For the record had he referenced "2nd and 3rd world pits" regardless of the language I wouldn't have said anything.

Portuguese and Spanish sound a lot alike, at least from my perspective. A lot of we Americans are not aware that Brazil is a Portuguese speaking nation, and probably assume it's Spanish until we are informed otherwise.

Well Stated.....

Thank you. That's how I feel. By stating what I believe to be the truth, I don't always make friends, but I can live with myself.

In a foreign country, it is your word, against theirs. The question comes, what can you do about it? And do you think you can win? Which are all doubtful. The best to do is apologize, pay a fine, and get the heck out. Turning this into a pissing contest could end you up in a 3rd world prison. And no, their prisons don’t have air conditioning and premium cable television and 3 hots and cot either.

I don't think it was Lochte's intention to make a big stink out of it. I think he did what he thought was right and reported it to the Rio Police. Others have said it was Lochte's mother that turned it into a big stink. That, and the "Napoleon Complex" apparently suffered by the Brazilian authorities.

Your futility is the victim here. Why does it matter I endorse your cockamamie sense of “ your truth,” contrarian?

You don't have to endorse the narrative that the facts demonstrate are the truth, you can simply go your own way and not worry further about me setting the record straight.

Also, it is interesting to note you label me as a "contrarian" because this is in fact, a pretty good description of me.

I do not simply accept things because people tell me so, I stubbornly insist that they show me facts or evidence or even persuasive reasoning that their arguments are correct.

Being a Cynic helps greatly in figuring things out accurately.

Wonder if this guy's endorsements have been pulled....

They wouldn't dare. He's in the protected class, and the social elite won't tolerate disrespect of his behavior or beliefs.

And they run the media.

Just a word to the wise; Texasgator doesn’t belong here and should have been zotted long ago. I have a feeling he was given a time out. He even stalks me which is why I’m not including his name in the reply line. I think he’s probably an old drunk and drug user.

He is certainly a character who's manner of thinking I do not grasp.

Drugs could explain it. :)

Again, does not change the fact you are in their country playing by their rules.

That other country plays by corrupt rules is not so much the issue here as the fact that many of the people who have been discussing this thread are cheering for the corrupt individuals in that Socialist foreign hell-hole and have not the slightest interest in making sure the truth of the matter is known.

Why are Freepers repeating the false claims from the Corrupt Rio Police officers instead of pointing out the truth?

The speculative side questions you raise in #96 convince me of only one thing, we will continue go nowhere in the absence of credible or conceded facts. (If you have a factual summary of the court proceedings in this instance, it would be interesting reading.)

We have a credible fact in that the Rio Police Department accused Lochte of breaking a soap dish. The two reporters from USA Today have confirmed this did not happen. Same thing with the mirror that the Rio police claim was broken. The mirror was found to be unbroken.

We have a fact that the Rio police did not submit a video of Lochte (or any other American) entering the bathroom they claim was vandalized. They have video for the entrance of the Bathroom because they showed us that they had video for the entrance of the bathroom.

We have a credible fact in two different Brazilian witnesses claim that the four Off Duty Rio Police officers who for some reason decided to be guarding a gas station in the middle of the night, did indeed point a gun at the Americans and demand money.

We have lots of credible facts, and they demonstrate to any reasonable man that the Rio police department lied about what happened.

As I and others have argued upthread, Lochte’s greatest and perhaps only offense may be that he, for his personal benefit, allowed a lie to his mother (?) to be spotlighted at the international level to the great embarrassment of the host country.

What lie did he tell his mother? I keep hearing that Lochte lied about something, but nobody seems willing to inform me regarding a significant lie that he told.

I wouldn’t believe little socialist Brazil would try to make Uncle Sam look foolish.

I wouldn’t be a but surprised if they demanded hush money to kill the story.
