New concerns arise about the mental health of students on college campuses all across the country.
Dr. Gene Beresin, a psychiatrist and Executive Director of The Clay Center for Young Healthy Minds at Massachusetts General Hospital, says 50% to 60% of college students have a psychiatric disorder.
What Im including in that is the use of substances, anxiety, depression, problems with relationships, break-ups, academic problems, learning disabilities, attentional problems, says Dr. Beresin. If you add them all up 50% doesnt seem that high.
Some undergraduates at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) agree.
People go through tough times, says Dane Erickson, a rising junior from Naples, Florida. Its really stressful sometimes here at school.
Many professors are diagnosis mentally impaired. That is why they sought-after the ivory tower life where their mental impairment is praised as their being “unique” or eccentric. It is their safe room. They are overpaid and coddled “adult” snowflakes.
Many professors are diagnosably mentally impaired. That is why they sought-after the ivory tower life where their mental impairment is praised as their being “unique” or eccentric. It is their safe room. They are overpaid and coddled “adult” snowflakes.
“50% to 60% of college students have a psychiatric disorder.”
much more than that if you define “Progressiveism” as a mental disorder.
So, dealing with universal life situations is now considered a psychiatric disorder?
Exactly!...All part of the lefts agenda to make everyone dependent on big government. Side bar ~ Can you imagine this bunch waking up to Dec. 7th 1941?
I don’t know about all that crap but what I do know is that 50 years or so ago the men in society had this big growing up exercise called the US Military to look forward to. Funny how a DI could get to the root of a problem quickly. Granted that not everyone got the call or went on their own but the numbers were sufficient to grow up a lot of boys into men quickly.
I am not advocating to a return to a draft based military because we could never afford it now given the peon wages that were paid in those days. I am making a distinction between life and death matters then to what I classify as basically pansy issues today like I need a sex operation or someone called me a bad name.
Psychiatrists are largely a bunch of drug pushers who admit they can’t cure anyone. Many of them are foreigners/muslims who don’t give a rat’s ass about “treating” anybody, just getting easy money to send back home.
If I were in college today, I would be mentally ill, too - especially if I had been told all my life that “you are the center of the universe, there is no right or wrong so you decide, 2+2= whatever you want it to equal if you tell a good story about how you got your answer, and most important of all - snowflakes never melt!
It’s a dysfunctional planet.
I haven’t said anything about your son and I’m surprised you would think that I was somehow sending a message to you about your child.
This article is about a lot of things that are caused by careless parents and liberal parents who send their kids to nutty schools. And how so many American children are encouraged to engage in adult behavior before they have the maturity to deal with the results.
Kind of brought back some “memories”.
This is completely untrue. Psychiatrists have made many breakthroughs in mental illness - just read Patty Duke’s autobiography in which her manic-depression was dealt with by her doctors. So many people have been helped by good therapists and medical doctors (psychiatrists) with medication and without.
I know so many survivors of 9/11 who were helped to get rest and care after their experiences.
I don’t know any muslim shrinks except that lunatic at Ford Hood - but I’m sure they’re out there. The Fort Hood jihadi was aided and abetted by the armed forces and should never have been allowed to practice much less be on that base.
One should be careful to stay clear of muslim names when looking for medical services.
A great portion of why colleges seem to be loaded with snowflakes is that the colleges are loaded with snowflake faculty and treat everyone as children.
Faculty treat people as lesser adults than themselves, and since they are idiot liberal children, they treat everyone as snowflakes.
What an awful trend, rbg! Is it because they’ve been so coddled all their life? Don’t they work at jobs during their summer vacations? I worked in high school. Hated it, I admit, although when I look back on it I was practically running the clothes department at A&S! I wish I had the super math skills today I had then!
They aren’t mentally ill, they’re just psychologically stifled. When you have a kid who has never been told “no” by his parents, given everything he could possibly want, been in a school where he was rewarded for just showing up (see participation trophies), done sports where everybody wins or gets a trophy, or worse, they never kept score, been told he’s precious, special, and so important, and been the entire center of the universe his entire life, it’s small wonder that he’s running into some challenges when his girlfriend thinks he’s not the center of the universe, SHE is, or his professor thinks his paper sucked and graded it accordingly, or that nobody cared/noticed when he did some half-a$$ed effort on something and he didn’t receive the effusive praise he needed/craved.
Combine that with the fact that this generation lives on social media, but they don’t tell the whole truth of their lives in what they post on social media, just all the brag-worthy stuff, so this poor, precious snowflake doesn’t realize that everybody else is just as ordinary as he is, and he goes into a tail spin, because he’s never been taught (by his parents when he was growing up) to deal with disappointment, failure, competition, or that the world doesn’t revolve around him.
It seems to me the ones going this route have a lot of anxiety about getting a real job. Are they coddled by someone? Probably, but my insight is limited. The sad thing is that these kids are above average in terms of the other students. So, if they got their act together, they could probably end up doing pretty well. In the end, they are their own worst enemy.
I’m just pointing out that conservative parents deal with this too.
Bipolar is genetic, and it runs in my family.
College is the age that bipolar typically comes out.
I do think more kids are having issues. I personally think that kids are given too much homework and have too much structured activity in elementary through high school. I think they would be better served with more work around the home or a job. Lots more valuable life lessons learned.
Many professors are diagnosis mentally impaired. That is why they sought-after the ivory tower life where their mental impairment is praised as their being unique or eccentric. It is their safe room. They are overpaid and coddled adult snowflakes.
And me? I spent 23 years in the Air Force, so this is my second career. It really amazes me when I hear what some of my colleagues complain about. Even so, they are fundamentally smart people and could adapt to the outside world if they had to. But they do not have to.
“So, dealing with universal life situations is now considered a ‘psychiatric disorder’?”
For a couple decades now, many kids have been shielded from dealing with universal life situations. Bullying? Let Mom sue the school. Death? He or she is too tender to go to a funeral. Failure? To be avoided at all times. Winning? Everyone wins. Excellence? White privilege. Bumps and bruises? Not in today’s risk-adverse playgrounds. Discomfort? Get to the doctor at the first whine. Disagreements? Safe places. Faith? Too old-fashioned. Challenges? Unfair rules from powers-that-be. Two functional parents? Sexist.
When these kids are cut loose at college, without support systems and without having developed coping mechanisms for life’s unpleasantries, then they will experience severe stress and anxiety. They have been emotionally cocooned all their lives and now have to pay the price or resort to substance abuse, hiding back home, suicide, whatever.
