On Wednesdays Hannity on the Fox News Channel, Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump stated that people who have been in the US illegally for a long period of time wont get citizenship have to pay taxes, theres no amnesty as such. Theres no amnesty. But we work with them.
Trump was asked, [relevant exchange begins around 3:30] [Y]oure not a criminal alien, you committed no crimes, but you didnt respect our laws and sovereignty. You also seem to be indicating there might be something other than they have to go back. Am I reading that right?
He answered, Look, we have to follow the laws of our country.
Trump then asked the audience what should be done about people who have been in the US for a long time and has been terrific.
After asking this question of his audience two more times, Trump was asked, So, youre saying there is and you have been sort of indicating that therell be some flexibility that you originally you had said they were all out, and there was a big brouhaha, but youre saying that if somebody can prove that theyve been here, proven to be a citizen, but heres the big question, though, no citizenship?
Trump responded, No citizenship. Let me go a step further, theyll pay back taxes, they have to pay taxes, theres no amnesty as such. Theres no amnesty. But we work with them.

Your comments related to me and Hillary are foolish to the point of being almost incoherent.
I’ve been dumping on the Clintons since 1988. That’s 28 years ago in case you need help with that too.
I never demanded Wetback 2.0. I demand what he first said he was going to do.
You should too.
Campaign hot air is exactly what it is.
Having a hair-trigger on being irrational makes it hard to see this.
Yeah, all hot air. Marco Amnestio talked tough on amnesty during his senate run. How did that work out for us?
I also explained that these people are loyal to Mexico, not the United States.
And to El Salvador, Honduras, Guatemala, China, Somalia, etcetc. AND Islam.
IMHO and time will tell, he used the word “softening” due to bad advice. We will soon see his detailed immigration plan, and since he is a very smart man, I am sure he will not propose anything that will alienate millions of his supporters.
I’m glad I’m not modern and don’t even know what a tablet looks like. :-)
We will soon know his plan. I seriously doubt that he will water down what he has up on his website. He wants to win, and his position on immigration both legal and illegal is the most or one of the most important issues to basically every one of his supporters.
.
Put a few big employers in the slammer for hiring illegals, and all the rest will shed their illegals quickly.
Self deportation will ensue.

Agree with you and that may be what it will take. But the Chamber nor a lot of Republicans will certainly fight it tooth and nail.
Certainly eliminating all ESL and Arab immersion classes in the U.S. is an easy peasy thing to do as is not allowing kids to walk across border crossings from Mexico into Texas and catching a school bus to U.S. schools.
I didn’t see the Hannity interview. What law says we have blanket citizenship? To remain in country they must pay back taxes. No talk of citizenship here. Has he ever suggested citizenship?
Really it will be impossible to deport millions of illegals. I’ve come to the conclusion that the best way to deal with the illegal problem is to build a wall to help the border patrol and slow down the illegals, beef up the border control and relax their rules of engagement and implement a policy of attrition through the passing of laws that makes it more difficult to be illegal in America including making it mandatory for illegals to show proper identification to cops without being able to charge harassment.
How long do you think it will take La Raza, MALDEF, Mechla and like organizations to file a suit in conjunction with the ACLU?
They will claim that it isn’t Constitutional to deprive access to Citizenship. Some judge will agree, on the basis it sets up a 2nd class situation.
Beyond that, how much money do these folks make, and how much will they declare on their tax returns?
I submit they’ll declare as little as they can, make money on the side as they always have, and then take advantage of the Earned Income Tax Credits.
They’ll get the cash. We’ll get the shaft.
If they have to pay back taxes, they’ll pay it with their EITC.
Most of them will never pay taxes. Each year they will get an EITC.
This is part of the reason I say all this accomplishes is giving them another government program to scam.
They will continue to get government programs, perhaps even more based on their low income status.
This is a terrible way to “fix” immigration.
