WASHINGTON (AP) -- The State Department says a $400 million cash payment to Iran was contingent on the release of American prisoners. Spokesman John Kirby says negotiations over the United States' returning Iranian money from a decades-old account was conducted separately from the prisoner talks. But he says the U.S. withheld delivery of the cash as leverage until the U.S. citizens had left Iran. Both events occurred Jan. 17. Kirby spoke after The Wall Street Journal reported that the departures of the crisscrossing planes were linked.

Let me see if I have this straight:

They told one set of stories which were false.

Now they’re telling completely different stories that contradict the original stories.

However the original stories were not lies, meant to deceive the American people and Congress.

I get it - the original stories are now “inoperative”. Yeah, that’s the ticket...

It wasn’t ransom, it was aid and comfort for the mullahs in Iran.

...Didn’t they pay “tributes” to the Barbary pirates before Jefferson sent in the marines...

The U.S. treaty with Tripoli concluded in 1805 and included a ransom for American prisoners in Tripoli, but the Treaty did not include “tributes,” a matter of semantics...

No. We fought the Barbary war and the War of 1812 in part due to refusal to pay ransoms.

Riiight...
If that was the case the hostages would be released first, then the money given.

The actuality was that ransom was paid.
Money was given first, and only after the money was received the hostages were set free. So reality was even worse than this new spin on the story.

The difference is, this was a violation of the sanctions imposed on Iran.

It’s simply amazing the verbal gymnastics the left used to convince the American people this was not a ramson. Down is up... and up is down...got it!

Not a ‘ransom’, but ‘payment for services rendered’.

Yah, that’s it!!!

So Obama lied to our face the first time around and now his administration admits to paying the $400 million as ransom for American hostages. Which is against federal law.

And Obama's scheduling a press conference between rounds of golf to admit that he lied and got caught with his hands in the till, right? Anyone? Chirp....chirp....chirp....

Obama's administration is a CCE. Continuing Criminal Enterprise.
