Prison inmates produced defective combat helmets for U.S. soldiers
The Washington Times ^ | August 17, 2016 | Andrea Noble

Federal prison inmates used makeshift hatchets and a screw shoved through a piece of wood among other rudimentary tools to manufacture thousands of faulty Kevlar combat helmets designed to protect the lives of U.S. soldiers on the battlefield, according to a highly critical watchdog report that offered new details about the government boondoggle.

More than 126,000 helmets manufactured at a Texas prison under a government contract were recalled after inspectors found major defects... Even though the government and taxpayers lost $19 million on the defective helmets, ArmorSource, the company responsible for the helmets, was awarded more government contracts even as the Justice IG probe was being conducted.

...

ArmorSource ... FPI officials “pre-selected” helmets for what were supposed to be random quality checks, the IG report found, and staff directed inmates to alter documents “to falsely indicate that helmets passed inspection and met contract specifications.”

Yet more obama fraud calculated to put our servicemen in danger.

Our president couldn’t have done a better job of wrecking the US if he were doing it deliberately.

“Our president couldn’t have done a better job of wrecking the US if he were doing it deliberately.”

And just what leads you to the conclusion that he isn’t doing it deliberately? He isn’t stupid, he’s just pond scum!

Our military contractors are using prison labor, so we’re almost there.

"The helmets were being produced just as the George W. Bush administration was escalating the U.S. military mission in Iraq, the famous “surge” to turn back al Qaeda militants."

Couldn’t the government have contracted this important job out to some American Manufacturer? Surely there are industries with the lower 48 who could make these and make them correctly. Prisoners may have sabotaged it and laughed about it.

Profit is king. And the prisoners weren’t the ones who rigged the inspections.

Reminds me of Schindler’s List:

“Stern, if this factory ever produces a shell that can actually be fired, I’ll be very unhappy.”

That's an act of sabotage during a war.

Kill the FPI officials.

Yeah, only thing left is to incarcerate some conservatives and set up the “Work sets you free” banner over the prison yard entry. Just like old times.

One of my friends works there.

I suddenly had a mental image of Hillary having to sew uniform shirts in a prison workshop.

The contract work started in the end tail of the Bush presidency. The fallout seemingly happened under Obama.

Speaks more to the broken and corrupt system than any particular person.
