Donald Trumps speech yesterday on the threat of radical Islam included a section about immigration policy that has the usual suspects in a tizzy. This section focused not on terrorism, but rather on what Andy McCarthy calls the grand jihad, the importation of Islamist ideology that rejects our constitutional order and open society.
In his trademark manner, Trump departed from the prepared text to Archie Bunker-ize the speech by calling this extreme vetting, which is not the phraseology you should use once youve won the nomination and are trying to persuade the middle-of-the-road voter in Ohio and Florida. But rather than calling for body-cavity searches, as this label might suggest, he was instead calling for ideological/values screening, with the commonsense goal that we should only admit into this country those who share our values and respect our people. He explained:
In addition to screening out all members or sympathizers of terrorist groups, we must also screen out any who have hostile attitudes towards our country or its principles or who believe that Sharia law should supplant American law.
Those who do not believe in our Constitution, or who support bigotry and hatred, will not be admitted for immigration into the country.
It takes an Ivy League education to object to using our borders to keep out Jew-haters, gay-killers, and apostate-stoners. And, sure enough, in the Washington Post, Politico, and elsewhere, a passel of experts tells us that this is crazy, illegal, unconstitutional, and various other adjectives.

Call it the Immigration Act of 1952....or the McCarran act which we called it when i was a sixties activist and thought that Nixon would use it to mass round us up...but whatever you call it it was passed in 1952...vetoed by Harry Truman and the veto was overridden by a heavily lop sided DEM majority...from the 1920’s til about 1990...we kept a lid on immigration and Trump wants to bring a law back that never fully left for last 64 years...
How will this work with taqiyya?
My only quibble is with the name - extreme vetting - which plays into dem hands that pubs are extremists. The plan is really not that extreme at all.
Trump should have called it common sense vetting.
Vet ALL muzzie immigrants before they have the chance to create havoc in our country. We’ll be sorry later if they don’t.
In additon, don't even keep a visa office in those nations.
Close them all down and recall American personnel assigned there.
Meanwhile hillary plans to bring in millions of them as payment for their votes and money.
Extreme vetting. Sounds like there are two outcomes: We let you in or we put your remains in a compost pile.
Sounds like a plan.

Not extreme at all!!
At 4:30 minute mark Melissa Frances talks about the current vetting process posted on the WH website. Peter King says the WH is not following those guidelines, but is pushing to meet the pre-determined quota for Syrian refugees.

Or “thorough and effective.”
If a nation has to jump through hoops to vet a group before its members enter as immigrants, why on earth would that nation ever be so stupid, such stupid fools, as to even bother importing any of that group.
Of all the reasons this nation was founded, it was not to be the world’s garbage can. Our Constitutional mission statement was not to secure the nation as an immigrant landing station. It just was not.
Does that sound extreme to you?
Exactly. This is a BS half-measure. I expected better from Trump.
Just a question, if anyone knows, the number of minerets on a mosque, is there a significance?
This is purely my curiosity, there is one near me with two.
Extreme vett9if you’re from an extreme setting
Makes perfect sense
Trump can do what Jimmy Carter did after our embassy people were seized by the Iranian Islamic thugs;
CARTER BANNED IRANIANS FROM COMING TO US DURING HOSTAGE CRISIS
Trump is just like Hitler. Or Jimmy Carter.
December 8, 2015 Daniel Greenfield
Trump is a monster, a madman and a vile racist. He’s just like Hitler. Or Jimmy Carter.
During the Islamic Revolution’s Iranian hostage crisis in which Islamists took over the country, Carter issued a number of orders to put pressure on Iran. Among these, Iranians were banned from entering the United States unless they oppose the Shiite Islamist regime or had a medical emergency.
Here’s Jimmy “Hitler” Carter saying it back in 1980.
Fourth, the Secretary of Treasury [State] and the Attorney General will invalidate all visas issued to Iranian citizens for future entry into the United States, effective today. We will not reissue visas, nor will we issue new visas, except for compelling and proven humanitarian reasons or where the national interest of our own country requires. This directive will be interpreted very strictly.
Apparently barring people from a terrorist country is not against “our values” after all. It may even be “who we are”. Either that or Carter was a racist monster just like Trump.
While Iran was a nation, it was targeted because it was overrun by Shiite Islamists who were engaging in terrorism against America. Sunni Islamists like ISIS have a big footprint in far more countries than Iran did so a visa ban targeting them needs to be much broader in scope than going after one country.
Meanwhile here’s how the Iranian students who had become notorious for Anti-American protests in the US were treated.
Carter orders 50,000 Iranian students in US to report to immigration office with view to deporting those in violation of their visas. On 27 December 1979, US appeals court allows deportation of Iranian students found in violation.
In November 1979, the Attorney General had given all Iranian students one month to report to the local immigration office. Around 7,000 were found in violation of their visas. Around 15,000 Iranians were forced to leave the US. The ACLU protested, lawyers sued over the deportations and lost. First Amendment objections were set aside by a Federal Appeals court.
Meanwhile any Iranians entering the US were forced to undergo secondary screening.
Interestingly enough, Carter did this by invoking the Nationality Act of 1952. A law originally opposed by Democrats for its attempt to restrict Communist immigration to the United States.
I forgot to ping both of your on my reposting of a Greenfield article re Carter limiting Iranian immigration to America after Iran’s seizure of our Embassy and people.
