I rescued one and he was wonderful for the 6 years he lived. Past beatings and head injuries shortened his life. He was only 8 but had some of the best 6 years I have ever shared with an animal.
This one was a gift from a friend who used her male to get it...He is a treasure too. Almost 4 more wonderful years. He still will not go near the water and when I am in the pool wants to sit inside and watch me until I get out...
One time he scratched at the tile until I was afraid he would just tire out and sink. Now once in a while I force him to swim to the steps so he will remember where he can get out.
Rounded sides cause falls into the pool when chasing small critters around the deck. I might not hear the splash and lose him!
