UN peacekeepers have long been a mixed bag, depending upon who contributes troops and who is in command.

I am not surprised that they declined to intervene. Some of them may have been jealous that the militia got their first.

As to the Embassy, no Embassy that I am aware of has the capability to project force outside the walls of US facilities. When you are in a foreign country, you are subject to the whims of whoever is in control.

The US should have sent in a rapid response force and butchered the rapists. But of course, under Obama, I’m sure that was not permitted.

Side note: Have a young female Christian friend who was thinking about going to the Middle East for a vacation: Cairo or Dubai. I explained what might happen to her, that wearing her cross could get her arrested, raped, killed, or all three, etc. She was shocked. Fortunately, she believed me.

Now she and her boyfriend are going to Europe (there are still some nice places in Europe).
