Given the media has lumped this attack with the muslim attacks, what are we to think?

If he’s not a Muslim convert, then this is really a “man bites dog” kind of story.

There is absolutely zero indication that he is a Muslim - none of the people who know him indicated that he might be one, including colleagues from work. There was no classic Allah crap before/during the attack.
This really is just a loner whacko who snapped.

Given the media has lumped this attack with the muslim attacks,... I had not seen that anywhere, but a lot of assumptions on FR because they did not release the name.

Exactly how does a partial name that is not confirmed as being real and a screwed up photo, “clear up any misconceptions”.
The notion is ridiculous.

Exactly how does a partial name that is not confirmed as being real and a screwed up photo, clear up any misconceptions. Because that is SOP here! The perp / the victims are NEVER identified by full name. Their pictures are ALWAYS pixelated.
As to confirmation:
the police released the name
the mayor of the town the kid was born and raised in knows him
his father is a teacher in the town
the paper knows the name - BUT - it is against the law to publish it!

Awwwwww... another misunderstood and bullied beta male :(
Jeez! get a grip! he killed a bunch of people, lock him up!
Well, I don’t know about the prison terms in Europe, that norwegian psychopath that killed over 60 kids in an Island in Norway will be out soon (2033)..
By then the Muslim situation will be so bad in Europe Anders Behring will attract nutcases like the one above for his white nationalist Odin worshipping group or party, and Europe will burn. Turkey will drop a nuke on Europe, Europe will retaliate and WWIII will start.
Best to reinstate capital punishment.

I still want to know if his parents are native Swiss. He was apparently born and raised in a small town in the Canton of Schwyz - his father is a teacher and well known in town. None of the people interviewed made any mention of him or his family being foreigners - it is quite common here for that fact to be mentioned in an article, even if the perp is Swiss, they would say he was the son of immigrants.

You apparently assume that I sympathize. You are wrong. I am simply trying to get everyone to calm down about the fact that the Swiss will NEVER release his full name or an unpixelated photo. It is against the law to do so here.

the paper knows the name - BUT - it is against the law to publish it! But not against the law for a non-Swiss paper to get the name and publish it.

But not against the law for a non-Swiss paper to get the name and publish it. If they can, but if they do, they can face sanctions in Switzerland. It generally does not happen and only would IF there were a big story behind to make it worth it.

If hes not a Muslim convert, then this is really a man bites dog kind of story. Well, not quite as simple as that. Far down in the article you find the Mayor in the village where Simon S grew up and where the family still lives, saying: "[D]ie Familie sei bestens integriert." (The family is fully integrated.) Now this can mean that it is a family of Swiss stock that takes part in the local communal activities, like the local fire brigade etc. However, I asked a Swiss colleague and he said that it is very rare you would write that about a Swiss family. Much more likely that you would say that about an immigrant family. But then again Schwyz is one of the original cantons, so maybe the mayor just wanted to indicate that they originally came from Zürich or some other new canton.
Sad story, in any case.

Thanks for finding the article.
We need to ensure people have the correct info. I posted another wrongly-attributed photo yesterday. I posted this image to the threads I could find.

I read a post of yours in another thread that said they even do that with missing persons: Partial name and pixelated photo.
Well, how are we supposed to find the missing person?
