In most respects, the roommate-wanted notice seemed routine. Three students at the Claremont colleges in Southern California were looking for a fourth this summer to join them in an off-campus house. They added a caveat in parentheses: “POC only,” they said, using a common abbreviation for people of color.
When a classmate challenged that condition, the Pitzer College student who posted the notice on Facebook pushed back. “It’s exclusive [because] I don’t want to live with any white folks,” wrote Karé Ureña, who is black.
The online comments touched off a debate this week over race at Pitzer and neighboring colleges, one that flared into national headlines after the Claremont Independent student magazine wrote about it.
To some, Ureña’s request was completely understandable following a racially charged year when many students of color had demanded more support from the administration. To others, it was simple racism to exclude potential roommates based on skin color.

I agree. And it is a sad commentary that the same people who should most fear the return of race based segregation are cheering it on.

Fine by me, if whites can request white room-mates too, without having to make up some b-s excuse about personal compatibility.
Self-segregation is not the same as public-accomodation segregation or affirmative action. I think it’s closer to freedom of association, although I’ll admit the lines get kinda blurry sometimes.
Lefties believe in affirmative action because they believe black people are inferior. Since they believe black people are inferior, they naturally believe it is OK for them to be racist.
Good luck doing the same thing if you’re white.

Racist. You use that word a lot, I’m not sure it means what you think it means.
Because a handful of conservative whites will undoubtedly contact them to challenge them. Those are the ones you "reluctantly" give in to and take on as roommates.

And, when advertising for replacement actors in the most popular Musical on Broadway, it was noted ‘minorities only’. And whites are flocking to see it. A rewritten history, pretending that our Founding Fathers were minorities.
I bet this student is a Democrat too. Dems have always been the ones who are interested in dividing the country by race.
They cheer it on because they have given up hope on ever catching up; many blacks have deep-rooted inferiority complexes. Who wants roommates that you can’t understand if they use words that are more than one or two syllables?
That is what “black studies” classes and such are for as well; I’ve seen the lost looks in their eyes when they are in integrated classes. After the first couple of semesters you would never see them anymore; they either retreated to the safe space of minority studies or dropped out...
