For the first time Republicans narrowly support legalizing marijuana

YouGov's latest research shows that most Americans still support legalization of marijuana, and that support for legalization has increased slightly, from 52% in December 2015 to 55% today. Most of this change is a result of changing attitudes among Republicans. In fact, for the first time, Republicans narrowly tend to support legalization, 45% to 42%.

Yeah, threatening people with imprisonment for possessing weed is a real winning issue for lovers of Liberty.

So why do Freepers ridicule Obama for being a pothead? They should give him some kind of libertarian award instead.

Oh really?

Why is that?

Why do you, Ethan Clive Osgoode, in particular want someone who chooses to smoke weed to serve a long prison sentence?

How were you injured by that decision by in such a way that justifies your wanting them to suffer?

Just say no! Listen to Sgt. Friday.

My cousins wanted me to try weed, from a disgusting device called a “roach clip” which allows one to get every last bit out of a nearly depleted marijuana cigarette butt. They kept saying “this isn’t the good (stuff)” but still, they were very insistent. I declined!

Good point. I wonder how much pot use will affect work performance? Employers may be weighing their options.

Just because something is legal doesn't mean it's beneficial, especially if not used in moderation.

0bama has done plenty of other things which totally disqualify him from ever being considered for any "libertarian" award...

Vote Trump!

Imho, it’s not a good idea to legalize marijuana.

Maybe decriminalized.

Prohibitionists have no claim to the moral high ground. Marijuana was legal throughout all human history, including biblical times.

It was the Progressives who pushed drug and alcohol prohibition, along its attendant ills, onto this country beginning in the late 1800s.

Oh really?

Yes, druggies belong in prison. They need to be kept away from kids and normal people. Nobody with a job needs to hear their bullshit about drugs. They can share that with other druggie inmates.

How were you injured by that decision by in such a way that justifies your wanting them to suffer?

Kind of like asking if I was personally injured by Charles Manson.

Nope. Charles Manson is an actual criminal.

If there is a druggie bothering you or your kids, then by all means call the police and report it.

If you don’t want to hear their bullshit about drugs, why don’t you walk away while they are talking? I’m sure that they will get the message that you aren’t interested.

However, a person deciding to smoke some weed in their on home on some night doesn’t affect you at all, but you want them in prison, because you don’t like a decision that they made in their own life that has no bearing on yours whatsoever.

You strike me as a sadistic control freak, and frankly, I’d just as soon you be in prison.

You are the one that is actually trying to harm people by having them thrown in prison for nothing.

Maybe they are the normal ones, and you aren’t.

So are druggies. Manson was one too.

They are indeed people who use drugs who are also violent criminals.

And there are people who use no drugs who are also violent criminals.

Perhaps we should deal with violent criminals when we encounter violent criminals.

Let me ask you this.

If druggies should be kept away from normal people and kids via long prison sentences, should people who use alcohol be kept away from normal people and kids via long prison sentences?

Alcohol is a drug, and an addictive and deadly one at that, and there are most certainly violent alcoholics, I know this for a fact, because I grew up with one.

So, should those who consume alcohol be tossed in prison?

You have to look on the bright side of incarceration. You can be with all your druggie friends and you all can babble your druggie philosophy to each other, because outside of those walls, back in the world of normal people who work and have kids, NO ONE WANTS TO HEAR IT.
