The Daily 202: Hillary Clinton’s agenda would flounder in Congress. Here are seven reasons why.

By James Hohmann August 11 at 9:25 AM

Hillary Clinton is trying to win a mandate to enact an ambitious economic agenda. During a rally in Des Moines yesterday afternoon, the Democratic nominee said she could create 10.4 million new jobs as president. “In the first hundred days of my administration, we will make the biggest investment in new jobs, good-paying jobs, since World War II,” she said at a high school. “How are we going to do that? Well, we’re going to invest in infrastructure – our roads, our bridges, our tunnels, our ports, our airports. … We are going to do water systems. We’re going to do sewer systems. We are also going to build a modern electric grid.”

Jonathan Rauch argues that Trump didn’t cause the chaos, but the chaos caused Trump. “Our most pressing political problem today is that the country abandoned the establishment, not the other way around,” he writes. “Chaos syndrome is a chronic decline in the political system’s capacity for self-organization. It begins with the weakening of the institutions and brokers—political parties, career politicians, and congressional leaders and committees—that have historically held politicians accountable to one another and prevented everyone in the system from pursuing naked self-interest all the time. As these intermediaries’ influence fades, politicians, activists, and voters all become more individualistic and unaccountable. The system atomizes. Chaos becomes the new normal—both in campaigns and in the government itself.”

He believes demonizing and disempowering political professionals and parties is like spending decades abusing and attacking your own immune system. “Eventually, you will get sick,” Rauch writes. “Because that problem is mental, not mechanical, it really is hard to remedy.”

The article talks about a list of things that won't be done. But What caught my eyes are the paragraphs at the end of the article:

He believes demonizing and disempowering political professionals and parties is like spending decades abusing and attacking your own immune system.

The have only themselves to blame. This comment seems to blame electorates for abandoning elites who are just doing a fine job. The rot is indeed deep if this is what passes as an insightful analysis.

I think the word that James Hohmann is looking for is "founder".

A flounder is a fish.

Only if Congress was doing their job, so far they haven't.
We will see another 4-8 years of Republicans being sweet-talked or arm twisted in backroom deals to vote with the Dems.

LOL, she could have said all this in five little words:

“We’re going to do debt”

As Obama has shown, a president doesn't need congress. He just makes decrees. The lord of the manner makes laws.

The weekend after the election in 2008. Valerie Jarrett was the co-chair of Obama’s transition team. He asked about the process of transition, and Jarrett responded “It is important that President-elect Obama is prepared to really take power and be ready to rule day one.”

They already got $trillions for "shovel-ready projects" and didn't do any of that.

Be honest. Trump’s agenda would flounder in Congress, too.

I thought we already “invested” in the infrastructure under the Obammie “stimulus” program. I’m really not sure that Americans are all that excited about putting up with even more orange signs, barrels, cones and people leaning on shovels than we already have to put up with now. I spent an hour and twenty five minutes at a “30 minute delay” construction site the other day waiting for the “pilot car”. As we were taken through the construction site, all I saw was two little orange street sweepers and a bunch of guys with hardhats on leaning on shovels, brooms and the back of a bunch of new pickup trucks. What a joke.

Sr. Beck was suggesting this morning that even if we could not agree on Trump at the top, that we desperately need to come together to vote GOP downticket, so that the GOP can act as a “speed bump” to Hillary’s agenda if she gets elected.

This is quite foolish: if Hillary gets elected, the Congress will be her toadies and give her everything she desires, since the Congress has been doing this for 8 years under Obama, regardless of which party has been in the majority. On the contrary, if Trump is elected, the Congress will be his greatest impediment, certainly if the Democrats are in the majority, but perhaps more so if the GOP is in the majority.

Our first task is to get Trump elected. Our second task, beginning on November 10, is to bring the Congress into submission to the will of the people, by any lawful means necessary, regardless of who inhabits the Congress.

That’s right. Hitlery would get everything she wanted and the Executive Orders would be numerous.

Hitlery would loose the hounds from Hell upon her enemies and opponants. She would rival Stalin.

That sort of thinking speaks volumes.

IMO Hillary would be much more effective in getting things through Congress than even Obama.

She has likely compromised 2/3 of the GOP Caucus through the Clinton Foundation.

She would easily be able to bribe others into getting on board.

We know a whole lot of Republicans in Congress agree with her anyway. Paul Ryan certainly does.

Republicans would see that by stacking the SCOTUS, legalizing immigrants and forcing Section 8 to the suburbs, they were being consigned to permanent minority status. So they would decide to play ball like good little puppies in order to protect their prestige and their pensions.
