Macys says it plans to close about 100 stores next year as the department store operator aims to become more nimble in a competitive market. That represents close to 14 percent of its store base. [ ]
The nations largest department store chain says that it earned $11 million, or 3¢ per share, in the quarter ended July 30. That compares with $217 million, or 64¢ per share, in the year-ago period.

I’m not saying Sears is anywhere nearly as busy as the local WM, but it attracts more than the local Macy’s.
We don’t have a Macy’s, but we have Kohl’s and other ‘fine’ retailers that are similar, and they are usually bereft of crowds...............
Thank you for your reply.
I’m still surprised that Sothebys would cheapen their Extra-ordinary high-end brand name by entering more ordinary real estate.
Perhaps the elite see the economic future’s writing on the wall?
RE:
“Has anyone noticed that Sothebys and Berkshire Hathaway are increasingly representing lower end homes, < 350K?
Yep. I’ve seen a few in my area they were listing for the low 300’s initially. One has since been reduced to 295k.”
Employees at their remaining stores might want to think about looking for another job before the company decides to get even more nimble.

Lord and Taylor’s is a great store. At Christmas time they actually play Christmas carols - and this is in NYC. The salespeople are lovely and polite. Hope it never changes.
My daughter loved L&T’s clothes and whenever a new season’s line would come in we would buy one of everything. She wore a 5 petite and few other stores, even in Houston, could match their selection, fit and price in that size. Then she was killed in an auto accident. L&T closed shortly thereafter. Trying to find humor where we could, one family member suggested that L&T closed here because they had lost their most substantial source of revenue.
Went to Chicago in 2006 during Thanksgiving weekend and was delighted to see a L&T there. They even had Salvation Army bellringers and their red kettles outside the store, Christmas decorations galore inside the store and Christmas carols. Would be surprised if they still do though.
Good luck with all that trying to compete with Amazon.com.
