The last time I had to RENEW my drivers license - right here in the Georgia county where I was born and raised, and lived my life - I had to produce my old DL, my birth certificate, and proof of address.

I did too. Georgia is a participating state in the REAL ID campaign which sets tighter controls on determine who actually IS who with IDs, particularly licenses.
It actually was the new Federal requirements that drove what you and I had to provide (actually more if you think about it). So, in that regard, I don’t mind the extra caution. What I don’t think these illegals will get is a REAL ID stamped DL, however because they couldn’t amass what it takes to meet the requirements.
[BTW, I was inducted in Georgia 1968 and qualified for the veteran’s license which bears NO costs - ever. Great money saver, and now Veterans are identified on the DLs with an American Flag in the upper right corner (it actually got me out of a ticket once) - easy to spot than the word “veteran” in small red type at the bottom....]
Apparently, you missed a golden opportunity to pick up a second identity. Or at least, would have, if your renewal was now instead of in the past.
