PITTSBURGH A homeowner armed with a gun scared off two would-be burglars who broke into his home early Tuesday morning, Pittsburgh police said.
Authorities said the men smashed a kitchen window to enter the home on Adelaide Street around 2:30 a.m. The sound of the breaking glass woke up the homeowner. Police said he grabbed his gun and confronted the men in his kitchen.
According to police, the homeowner told the men to get out and they followed his orders, backing out of the kitchen and climbing back down a fire escape.
Zone 2 police are investigating the attempted burglary. No descriptions or possible motives have been released.

...backing out of the kitchen and climbing back down a fire escape. I'd have sent him down via "the express route".

You may stand your ground in PA but only if the person attempting to confront said person has a weapon that is of lethal force to that individual.

Cases like this want me to legalize scalping under certain circumstances. An effigy pole with the scalps of these two perps dangling therefrom would be an appropriate display by this homeowner to other would-be perps.

WPXI also, quite PC-ly, refuses the name the neighborhood.
It was the Hill District, an overwhelmingly Black part of town that was burnt during riots in 1968.
To: Buckeye McFrog
My first thought was Homewood since they refused to name it. The Hill District was my second thought.
Funny how refusal to name the neighborhood actually names the neighborhood, isn't it?

possible motives
This makes me wonder what the motive actually was..since, i would guess burglary would be the #1 motive?

motive = “we want your sh*t”
Gotta remember this story is the work of young blondes who went to J School.

Actually Pittsburgh’s Hill District WAS the inspiration for Hill Street Blues. Steven Bochco graduated from Carnegie Tech (now Carnegie-Mellon Univ.) in 1966.

Wasn't the TV series actually filmed in Pittsburgh even though it was supposedly based in Philadelphia?
Loved that series! We moved to the 'burgh area many years later, but so much of that background looks familiar, right down to the potholes in the streets.
