The cover-ups versus the cover-nots: Egyptian and German beach volleyball players
The Daily Mail ^ | 8 August 2016 | JULIAN ROBINSON

It is a fast and furious sport played under the sun and famed for its revealing attire - with a practical uniform of bikinis for women and board shorts for men . But these pictures show the contrasting cultures among some of the nations taking part in the Rio Olympics after the Egyptian women's beach volleyball team took to the sandy arena wearing long sleeves and leggings.

The outfit, used by Nada Meawad and Doaa Elghobashy, who also covered her head with a hijab, was in stark contrast to their German rivals Laura Ludwig and Kira Walkenhorst who stuck to the sport's traditional two-piece outfit for the clash last night.

It is, but only because its own Military stepped in to stop the Fundamentalists after OBama basically handed the country to them during Arab Spring.

The west needs to wake up, and realize what Wahabbist Islam is, and take it head on. 40 years ago Muslim countries women wore bikinis and went to college.. today they wear burquas and can’t leave their homes unaccompanied... This didn’t happen overnight or by accident.

Egypt is considered a liberal Muslim country because of one President Al-Sisi.

That was what I told a Freeper on another thread. But I won’t be watching beach volleyball if it’s between two Arab teams.

As much as I like to see beautiful girls, there is something a bit disgusting about the tiny bikinis some girl’s volleyball players wear.

It is a sport not a display.

I also can’t stand the full covering of Islamic countries.

Just wear loose shorts and light shirt. They will look just as good, if they are in fact pretty.

I will have to google some pictures from 1950s and 1960s and that was when Cairo held beauty pageants and women wore bikinis.

“1959 No women are wearing a hijab”
“2004 90 percent of women are wearing a hijab.”

Don’t worry.

Germans will be dressed like that before too long.

Don’t the Muslim women care that they are very unattractive in those silly outfits?

If you had your external sex organs cut off as a child you probably wouldn't care too much about being attractive.

It’s a bunch of sexist hoochie-mama crap.

“Practical” my butt.

If tight too-short bikinis are practical for women, then tight too-short bikini speedos are the right counterpart for men.

Guess what? Oh, men still wear baggy pants? It’s about the men getting sexually aroused, not practicality with what is worn. Disgusting.

Moslems may be extreme, but the “west” (Godless) gets the other extreme.

To be honest I find both outfits ridiculous and very telling of what’s wrong with both cultures. One too restrictive, the other too permissive. One leads to cultural atrophy the other to cultural rot.

I keep thinking that the outcome of this culture war will be to meet in the middle somewhere, or that some other more sensible, middle of the road culture will end up dominating.

I think the beach volleyball “clothes” are softcore porn I do not want to watch people competing in their very tight underwear. Perhaps I am in the minority on FR anymore.

I’m with you, yarddog, a t-shirt and shorts, why must we choose between almost nudity and confining tents?
