I stayed at the Santa Fe Motel, in “old” Tehachapi... I have eaten at the bakery across the street though, and it was great! Come to think of it- I believe THAT bakery, is the German deli that you speak of...
I thoroughly enjoyed driving the route between Tehachapi and Bakersfield. The Pacific Crest Trail is being rerouted to the Tejon Ranch, west of Tehachapi, instead of crossing through the wind turbine fields to the south, east, and north-east of Tehachapi.
I’m not sure what kind of teams fought the fire. A little bit of everything... I think.
