You can drive (as I did) from Singapore to Malaysia, which is a contrast of development and cleanliness like Israel and Egypt.

In Singapore you have the Chinese from the the Tonkean and Fukien provinces of China who emigrated generations ago along with some people from India. Many of the original Maylays intermarried with them.

But when you cross the border into Malaysia, it seemed to me, in the 80’s, it was all Malay and all Muslim.

Remember, the Japanese conquered Singapore by biking in.
