TRENTON, N.J. (AP) Veterans and others in New Jersey are waiting on Gov. Chris Christie to decide whether they'll be allowed to legally treat their post-traumatic stress disorder with marijuana.
Lawmakers last week sent a bill to Christie's desk that would allow marijuana to be used for PTSD symptoms that are not treatable with conventional therapy. Christie has until later this summer to decide whether to approve the measure to make New Jersey the 18th state to allow medical marijuana to be used to treat PTSD.
Christie declined to comment on his plans at a statehouse news conference this week. He has previously said he wants to ensure the state's medical marijuana industry is based in science and doesn't want it to become a back door to legalization for recreational use.
Jim Miller, president of the Coalition for Medical Marijuana in New Jersey and host of a weekly medical marijuana podcast recorded outside of the statehouse in Trenton, said he's confident the measure will get Christie's support.
"There's a growing excitement thinking there might be a chance," Miller said. "I am hopeful that the governor will have a couple of veterans come in and witness the signing. That's just a good photo op for him."
Marijuana is currently approved in New Jersey to treat multiple sclerosis, terminal cancer and muscular dystrophy, among other medical diseases. It's also approved for seizures and glaucoma if those conditions resist conventional treatment.

If it works, why not?
Because you Can Not Patent it, protect it, and then make obscene profits from it.
Not much money to be made by anyone there.
I think he should approve it. We are talking about marijuana, about which a great deal is known and has been tested. This is not something created in a lab like Spice, Molly or Bath Salts.
Since they couldn't use "for the children" on this issue, they invoked veterans.
....and I’m just answering why not, not telling everyone they shouldn’t smoke pot. Your choice. But legalizing this stuff could turn out to be just like ObamaCare. Who knows where it will end up? Why can’t we write laws and establish parameters? What’s the hurry?
How many shell shock victims will be pushed into further psychosis with tetra hydra cannabinol.
Bad move
Sister in law stopped by for a visit this weekend. He & her hubby live in Boulder, CO. I asked her if they had noticed any change at all since cannabis became legal there. She’s lived there since the 1980’s so she has a good feel for when things change. She tells us she has noticed ZERO difference in their quality of life since cannabis became legal. ZERO. She is also NOT a cannabis user.
The issue about weed being more potent now than in the 60’s is a canard. More freedom is always BETTER. Don’t be a nanny-state tool, k?

I go to a group at the VA with fellow PTSD vets, it's especially for those who developed substance problems as a result of their affliction.
To a man they will tell you that no drug beats alcohol for an acute PTSD/Anxiety episode. The problem with alcohol is that it makes the condition far, far worse over time.
There's at least 1/2 dozen who extol the virtues of pot instead. There is no accumulated anxiety in the following days and allows them to function all the time.
Most just do it in the evening, not all day long like pot heads, but some during the day if they are going out to crowded venues or the grocery store.
I support legitimate clinical trials for those states that forbid any pot now.
The problem is that the Feds will not certify any trials due to drug scheduling so it's not possible to get it certified to treat ANYTHING.
Christy is a bit of a total psycho when it comes to smoking pot.
Dude is totally against it, which is why I’d just as soon he not ever be AG or anything else.
And no, I do not smoke pot, although I did used to.
Why clinical trials?
There is already troves and troves of information about marijuana. Just let people use it without the fear of being thrown in jail. It’s legal in Oregon now and I have noticed no change in the quality of life. I don’t personally use it.
If by canard you mean truism, then you are right.
Even Slate disagrees with you on potency:
Not That High
Todays marijuana is too strong, and thats bad for new business.
It’s bullshite is what it is. Greater potency = greater risk of jack squat. Who cares what Slate has to say about ANYTHING? Sheesh are you for LIBERTY & FREEDOM? Quit quoting progressive rags.
More freedom is ALWAYS better. Stop being a nanny-state tool.

Way to protect liberty and freedom...tell me what not to post. Bwahahahahaha. I posted it because if EVEN they are saying it, it’s probably true. If anything, they would lie they’re asses off.
Here you go, try something from the REAL experts”

Bwahahahaha. Aren’t you for freedom of speech, shut up!
Classic, Stickman. That will go on the wall.
You continue to be a nanny-state prohibitionist who thinks they know whats best for folks. Posting links to stories about potency being higher now than in the 60’s still proves zip about anything. So it takes less to achieve the desired level of high. Big deal. Morons who want to overdo it are going to suffer the consequences just as folks who drink to much alcohol do.
You up for criminalizing booze too?

Hurricane Sandy was stressful.
Wasn't Christie seen hugging a member of the Choom Gang right afterward?
Hilarious. My point was the whole idea of “medicinal use” is based on dosing. Sorry if that point evaded you. You can’t give someone a dose of something if you don’t know what the *&*&^ they are taking, can you? That was my point. You can pack up all the other crap and put it back into what ever orifice you pulled it from. If you want to legalize dope, say so. But stop the bullshit about it being “medicinal.” Cripes. This isn’t too hard to figure out. That was my point. My only point. Make it about something else if you want, Sport I don’t give a crap.
