ASKED by an out-of-stater where the nearest shooting range is, Patrick Leavitt, an affable gunsmith at Riverman Gun Works in Coeur dAlene, says: This is Idahoyou can shoot pretty much anywhere away from buildings. That is one reason why the sparsely populated state is attracting a growing number of political refugees keen to slip free from bureaucrats in Americas liberal states, says James Wesley, Rawles (yes, with a comma), an author of bestselling survivalist novels. In a widely read manifesto posted in 2011 on his survivalblog.com, Mr Rawles, a former army intelligence officer, urged libertarian-leaning Christians and Jews to move to Idaho, Montana, Wyoming and a strip of eastern Oregon and Washington states, a haven he called the American Redoubt.
Thousands of families have answered the call, moving to what Mr Rawles calls Americas last big frontier and most easily defendable terrain. Were hordes of thirsty, hungry, panicked Americans to stream out of cities after, say, the collapse of the national grid, few looters would reach the mostly mountainous, forested and, in winter, bitterly cold Redoubt. Big cities are too far away. But the movement is driven by more than doomsday redoubters, eager to homestead on land with lots of water, fish, and big game nearby. The idea is also to bring in enough strongly conservative voters to keep out the regulatory creep smothering liberty in places like California, a state many redoubters disdainfully refer to as the C-word

"The last big frontier
A movement of staunch conservatives and doomsday-watchers to the inland north-west is quietly gaining steam"
Must be why obozo wants to settle a bunch of muzzies up there.
I think Idaho just passed a no permit concealed carry law.
Too bad it’s not near the ocean.
You can bet on it.
Will not end well for the targets, er, muzzies.
“James Wesley, Rawles (yes, with a comma)”
That never made sense to me.
The Colorado project involved some well heeled faggot trash infesting that state with liberals, thus destroying the politics. That’s their business model for all of the country.
Ironic that they will provide the locals with moving targets.
Yeah, they’ll find a way to mess it up, like Section 8 housing and Syrian invaders in the middle of nowhere.
Oh, but the Olympians get free yogurt from Chobani, so it must be a great company, right?!
He explains it, but it is odd.
So what do we get out of it? Another congressman? Idaho is already red. A pen + a cell phone can take away those places you shoot. Deal with it and fight. You don’t need be Paul Ryan.
Wish it did not get so cold in winter, wife will not even consider that sort of climate.
They got wolves and coyotes to clean up afterward I would surmise.............
Animals gotta eat too. In this case, four-legged consuming two-legged.
If I had enough money I’d buy a few acres and start a small hog farm...I would be muzlim proof.
Oregon and Washington strip,huh?
As a resident of eastern Washington state, all I can say is “howdy”. Come here and help rid us of Patty Murray, Maria Cantwell, Jay Inslee, and the rest of that obnoxious crowd.
Some areas of the rural South are just as secure against the cancer of liberalism as is the Redoubt. And not nearly as cold in winter.
The only drawback to the rural South is it would be more susceptible to invasion by starving city-dwellers than the Redoubt.
Southerners just have to have plenty of access to lots more ammo....
I loved the first book, read it nonstop until it was done then passed it to all my AZ neighbors ( along with One Second After) so we would all be prepped up.
Other books were just plain awful.
Living in Southern Baja is like prepping. Canadian neighbors are off the grid—but have to truck in water. There is water beneath but the ranches keep it to themselves up in the hills. Next town over is agricultural, they have their own water source. The town I lived in was a fishing village. The Sea of Cortez still has lots of good eating fish.
