For centuries, the northern French town of Lille has been home to an autumn flea market — as famous for its party atmosphere as for its wealth of secondhand goods. Last year, more than 2 million people came to the weekend festival to gulp down oysters, drink all night and haggle over goods.
But La Braderie de Lille has been called off this year. After recent terrorist attacks in France, authorities say it is impossible to ensure security, NPR's Eleanor Beardsley reports.

How’s the refugee situation working out for you, France?

Since my last post I have been mulling it over——they should NOT have cancelled the event.
Let people decide whether they want to go or not.

Have the event, allow citizens open carry.
The last time there was talk about closing the Lille fair was back in 1995. The concern at that time was...wait for it...threats made by an organization that called itself the Armed Islamic Group.
Quite the coincidence, eh?
See? Terrorism works. You simply shut down the dominant culture one event at a time, destroy a monument here, another there... pass a few laws demonizing anyone who objects... before you know it, the only safe thing to do is comply.
Cowering hasn’t worked so far.
It’s France, the citizens do not have guns to open carry.
Let another couple hundred thousand of the animals in to appease them.....
I can't find the story right now, but I recently read an article where France is considering expanding its civil guard. That organization is, if I recall correctly, made up of civilians who can easily get concealed weapons permits.
Such folks could stop a lone gunman attack, or a suicide truck attack, early. And that's a start. But a bomb in a backpack...not so much. Very dark days are ahead for France and Western Europe.
And us. Given how many of them barrycakes has brought in on purpose to destroy the country. The republicans dance right along with barry dojng his jihadi jig.
You're right. I'm guessing that most Frenchmen are enraged by this. But in a few years it will be just accepted as normal.
