Worried GOP tells Trump: Get on message
The Hill ^ | August 2, 2016 | Jonathan Easley

Posted on 08/02/2016 3:56:36 PM PDT by Clintonfatigued

Republicans worried that Donald Trump has squandered a critical stretch of the campaign are urging the candidate to return his focus to the issues that won him the Republican presidential nomination.

Trump’s supporters say he too easily falls into traps set by Democrats and the media, and has allowed himself to be blown off course with fewer than 100 days to go before the election.

There is still time to turn things around, they say, but the candidate must stay true to his message of improving the lives of working-class people and rooting out government corruption and the influence of special interests if he’s going to reclaim momentum in the race.

“Hopefully, Donald Trump will soon recognize that if you take the bait every time, you’ll never have a chance to discuss the real issues,” Ben Carson, a former Republican presidential candidate who is now advising Trump, told The Hill.

“We have the upper hand on the economy, education .. and a whole host of things, there is no dearth of substantial issues to talk about,” Carson said. “There is no reason to engage with those who are trying to make this about something else. ... You pivot back to what’s important, you don’t have to take the bait. Learning that is perhaps one of the most important things.”

Hillary lied her arse off on Sunday talk shows and Mr. Trump decided to go after a Gold Star family.

It will take the “A Game” to defeat the democrats and their allies in media, unions, illegals, perverts, social media, achedemia, late night TV, Hollywood, pop culture, race hustlers, and the rest of the assorted Marxists who make up the modern democrat party.

“Either he pounds that message, or move on to something important.”

He could have done both..stay Presidential by not going after the Mrs. and let the two best political hit men in the business, Christie and Giuliani, do the dirty work.

It’s as if every time he gets a lead or has a good few weeks, he goes off the wagon and blows it all up!

“I loved that convention speech. I’d almost forgotten how good it was, and that Donald was the one who gave it. If he can’t become less ADHD and stay rationally on message, Hillary will mop the floor with him in the first debate. I never thought I’d be worried about that prospect from him, but after the last few months, yes, I have concerns. I don’t want Hillary in the White House.”

I totally agree. Trumps loses focus way too much. He’ll be crusing along with his message, then the democrats/media set a trap for him and falls into every time...and he stays in it for too long, feuding on Twitter or what have you while losing ground in the polls.

After an strong convention 2 weeks ago and then the DNC emails revelation last week, I was very confident Trump was going to win. Now, I am more fearful Hillary is going win all to easily. Even if Trump gets back on message and starts making headway, we know another trap and another fall is coming. He just can’t seem to stay focused....Very frustrating.

No one likely to vote for Trump gives a $hit about a muslim brotherhood shill screaming on TV that Trump is a goon. They are fed up with such people and wish they had never come here.

They actually enjoy seeing Trump be Trump.

Donald “phukem” Trump!

Boy, all the career politicians from DNC to GOP have advice for Trump. But none of them are who the American people are listening to anymore, because we have already heard their messages (and already seen their ways.)

The Dems know that he can be distracted by an attack, then spend days dealing with the (pre-arranged) media hype about it. Trump needs to attack Hillary as unfit for the office because of corruption and incompetence, and why his plans will help the middle class, make us safer, and generally make America great again. Ignore the distractions, they don’t win over voters, and they cost precious time.

Trump has mostly been on message. But now, since he’s up against the media’s darling in Hillary, any little detour or misstep is magnified and/or twisted into a several days news cycle. All the while, keeping most of the spotlight off of Hillary.

Agreed. Another pissant article. If it weren’t for Trump’s mild response to Khan the Sharia lover we wouldn’t have known how much of a fraud Khan was. Nice try MSM. But you guys are being exposed by the real news gatherers in the alternative press on the net.

Trump is on message.

The debate is as important as the issues, since it shows the person in action, how they’ll handle things, and what beliefs they’re fighting for. In a sense, these debates (with the bait) are about the issues.

There is where McCain and Romney lost. If the back-and-forth debate didn’t matter, why did Barack Obama engage in it back then, and still does now?

Hillary Clinton doesn’t have much going for her in the debate or on the issues, but Trump could also be better.

Like while not giving up arguing with Khan, and talking about how his son’s death isn’t very relevant to these issues, but also talking more about Hillary Clinton and the Democrats.

Well, I gotta say - I disagree with a lot of people here. He does need to stay on message and quit being so thin skinned. He already has all of our votes but it’s essential he picks up the independents (and he’s doing better there than Hillary I understand). He really does need to quit getting distracted by criticism and start ignoring the idiots and stay on his positive message of improving the US.

I lover Trump & his message but probably to win this he needs to get the heck back on topic. Hillary is sucheaper low hanging fruit (rotten) this year. This could be so easy.

I have to believe that Trump believes that he is on message. Otherwise, why would he be discussing the topics that he discusses?

He has always proved the critics wrong.

Yup..and I’m sure Trump gained a lot of new voters, just not enough to make up for the ones he lost.

Bullcrap. Democrats are always going for the disqualifier/knock-out punch, so they don't have to expend more effort or justify themselves.

Anyone telling Trump to ignore such assaults is a quisling, and deserves the same fate.

I doubt very seriously that he's lost ANY.
