COLORADO SPRINGS Speaker Paul Ryan told a donor audience convened by the billionaire Koch brothers that they're in a fight to "retake the soul" of the Republican Party.
"We have to do a better job of taking the moral high ground ... showing [conservative] ideas in practice," Ryan said on Monday.
"And it will help us retake the soul of our own party, which we have our own challenges with these days."
Ryan addressed a room of some 400 donors who have been gathered here since Saturday in a luxury resort at the foothills of the Rocky Mountains for the summer retreat of the Koch network, founded by billionaire brothers Charles and David.

So he’s admitting that WE took the soul of the party and he thinks he can ‘re-take’ it?
NO! Mr Ryan! You are NOT trying to ‘retake the soul of the Party. All you are trying to do is to remake the Republican Party into a group of sheep that follows the orders of you and the rest of the career politicians like you.
You and the rest of what I call SPRINO’s (Self-centered, Power-Hungry, Repulsive Idiots Negating Order).
NO! Mr. Ryan the core of Conservative Voters will not kowtow to your asinine words. We will not just blindly follow you and you ilk, because you have betrayed us, and even helps the people like Obama, Clinton et.al. et their way and step on our morals, ethics, values, all for the sake of money and power.
Your days are numbered Mr. Ryan, the PEOPLE are learning the truth and you are being found out for what you really are. A SPRINO!!!!!

He should be in his district, talking face to face with his constituents where he would find out that what HE thinks is the “soul of the party” is likely not what his constituents have in mind these days. He’s ignoring the immigration issue totally (because he’s open borders/amnesty) & those in his district don’t want to hear lofty platitudes such as “showing [conservative] ideas in practice” when he’s been enabling Obama fairly consistently. This is the mistake Cantor made and it cost him dear. I hope Ryan has the same experience.
Ah, now it makes sense! The heart of the Republican party is liberal democrat, open borders, Koch network, etc.
Thanks for explaining it, ryan. Of course, we already knew that.
...and Iran, Iraq, Saudi Arabia, Syria...
Only if you think the “soul” of the Republican Party is the filthy lucre earned by him and his colleges in return for pushing open borders and bad trade deals in return for generous “campaign” contributions to him and his cronies. This soul-less bastard is remarkable for his idiotic statements.
Paul Ryan: sissy boy who hangs out in locker rooms.
He is fighting the good fight to poach independents to vote for Republican Senate and House candidates.
New votes from the cities cut both ways. They strengthen the Republican majority while weakening the Rats

Paul Ryan took a false oath, he cannot protect and defend our Constitution when his masters are the US Catholic Bishops.
I guess I’m party shopping after the election.
...and Wisconsin.
You guys had years to do something with the Republican Party, and what did you have to show for it? BUPKIS!
Your time is over...move aside.
On immigration at least Ryan is no turncoat, as he has always been a left winger on that issue. As a staffer in the mid 90s, he helped torpedo the conservative Smith-Simpson bill, which would have significantly reduced (Democrat-importing) legal immigration and gotten tougher on illegal immigration. Perhaps Clinton would have vetoed it, but then again, it was an election year so maybe he wouldn’t have.
That the failure of that bill meant the continuation of mass immigration, it’d be interesting to know how many immigrants came after that and attained citizenship in time to vote against Romney/Ryan. It almost certainly wasn’t enough to be decisive in their defeat, but it no doubt made it a little easier for Obama.
What exactly is the “soul of the Republican Party”? Ryan, I’d really like to know. Is it open borders and amnesty? Is it funding DeathCare? Is it exporting American jobs? Is it spending that would make a drunken sailor look like a miser?
These are all positions you agree with, even champion. You have no idea of which you speak, Ryan. Remember this:
I, Paul Ryan, do solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic; that I will bear true faith and allegiance to the same; that I take this obligation freely, without any mental reservation or purpose of evasion, and that I will well and faithfully discharge the duties of the office on which I am about to enter. So help me God.
You have not kept your oath. Just another liar in a den of liars, thieves and perverts.
If Trump doesn’t win this election, there is no Republican Party.
It will be their FINAL betrayal of the base; there'll be no party to reclaim.
The word ‘Conservative’ has lost all meaning.
