Roswell Police Department out of Georgia terminated a long time officer after an investigation showed she flew a Confederate flag in the front yard of her home, and was possibly parking her patrol car close to it.

Good times
I don’t fully agree. I think officers have a commitment that extends to off-duty, especially if there is a patrol vehicle parked on the property.
Regardless of what that commitment is, it very likely was explained during the course of her employment.
I sympathize with the position, really. I’d fly one if my subdivision allowed it. But there are rules and requirements that we all acquiesce by one way or another to continually.
Coming up, I used to hear the phrase “moral turpitude” a lot. Especially when it pertained to high-profile people like movie stars, spokespersons, etc. The catch-all firing language from lawyers.
Exactly. The Left fights and wins. The Right concedes and complains. Posts above this one claim she'd still have a job if she displayed a Mexican, ISIS or rainbow flag. They're exactly right. The winners make the rules.
Hello.
*sniff*
You has a smell.
“I sympathize with the position, really. Id fly one if my subdivision allowed it. But there are rules and requirements that we all acquiesce by one way or another to continually.”
That may be the case today, but it never should have been allowed to happen. The problem is that we have stood by while our fundamental constitutional rights have been abrogated for all sorts of misguided and illegitimate reasons. As we’ve seen recently, the USSC has been given the authority by default to undermine and overturn our rights to such a degree that we now live in a tyrannical dictatorship with no guarantees of the courts securing our liberty as a free people. That police officer had every right to fly that flag on her personal property, regardless of whether she parked a patrol car near it, and should not have had her employment terminated for doing so. She has a strong case against the police department and city government for denying her rights, should she choose to pursue it. I hope she does.
If she’d flown an LGBT flag, Mexican or Palestinian flag, or an ISIS flag, she’d have been okay, and might have even gotten a promotion. Back in 1996, a NY State Correctional Officer was suspended for flying the Nazi flag on his front porch. He had been an officer for 18 years. An arbitration hearing found in his favor, and it was ordered that he be reinstated. Prior to the hearing, both parties agreed that the arbitration procedure would be final and binding, but of course the State reneged on the agreement, and appealed the decision to two lower courts which they lost. In 1999, the appeals court ordered that the officer be reinstated to his job. Spitzer was State Attorney General at the time. I was familiar with the case as I was working as a Sergeant at the time in another facility. It was so good to hear that Spitzer and NY State took it in the shorts on this case.
Believe me. I completely understand and sympathize and support, but there are cases and there are realities.
I hope she does go forward, but I don’t hold much hope in it succeeding, frankly.
I think officers have a commitment that extends to off-duty,....You THINK all you want except they work under a contract. If there is no citable, arrestable or punishable offense committed, Government can NOT make bullshit up to get rid of you, no matter HOW black the accuser is. How about working in a store and eying a beautiful woman who comes by where you are working? No crime, no basis for government retribution.
I don’t call it “make up bullshit” when there are very probably interpretable rules and regs within the department that will eventually allow them to prevail.
I didn’t create this although I agree with you in spirit and desire. I am the wrong to bark up, frankly. I just know what the likelihood of outcome is going to be. I know that area intensely well.
Free speech?
Free expression?
Not in Obamaland.
Interesting to think that somewhere in Ma, some mayor has a BLM banner outside city hall - and he’s being cheered on by the media. :)
Am I the only one that thinks this was written by someone with 5th grade skills? Really pathetic.
It doesn’t give her age, but she’s a long-time officer - gives them an excuse to replace her with a 20-something cadet with a lower salary and fewer healthcare needs.
That’s what my employer does!
