A traffic stop late Thursday night led to a shooting that killed a San Diego police officer and wounded a second officer and a suspect in Southcrest, where police searched for hours for other possible suspects.
The names and service history of the male officers, both part of the department’s gang suppression unit, were not released.
The slain officer suffered multiple gunshot wounds and died at a hospital despite life-saving efforts, San Diego Police Chief Shelley Zimmerman said early Friday. The wounded officer underwent surgery early Friday and was expected to survive.

No offense to you or to the decent people in uniform but San Diego has severe problems with their police department and I’d wait for the dash cam or surveillance video before making any conclusions.
They’ve had far too many substantiated problems to just assume the officers were in the right.

I’m not siding with the people who did this, I’m just saying that given the past history of the SDPD and especially given the documented history of SDPD abuses against USMC and USN uniformed personnel I’m not all that eager to just jump to their defense.
Quite to the contrary, I’ve often wondered when the SDPD were going to beat up on the wrong bunch of SEALs.
