Ted Cruzs failure to endorse rival Donald Trump for president at last weeks Republican National Convention in Cleveland, Ohio has apparently caused his favorability rating among GOP voters to collapse, according to a national survey and an Ohio poll.
An NBC News/Survey Monkey nationwide poll released Tuesday and a PPP survey of Ohio Republicans released Monday confirms the shocking collapse in Cruz favorability rating among Republican voters following the convention seen in a CNN/ORC poll released Monday.
Cruzs move, however, appears to have backfired. While 60% of Republican voters had a positive impression of the former presidential candidate before the convention, just 33% have one now.
Ted Cruz, who scored a strong round of boos when he declined to endorse Trump in his speech to the RNC, was not viewed kindly by Republicans voters. Though Cruz finished second in the GOP primary race, just 28 percent of members of his own party now view him favorably; 68 percent now view him unfavorably. Clearly, his performance at the GOP convention was not received well by his party.
The biggest loser from the convention is Ted Cruz though. He has an 18/65 favorability rating with Ohio voters, making him by far and away the least popular figure in our poll. Even among Republicans hes at just 23/61. We asked GOP voters who they would support in a hypothetical primary contest between Trump and Cruz, and Trump wins out 61-19.
I'd guess most people would see "your wife is ugly" loud and clear in that message. Perhaps you don't see it, but if not then you need glasses, or an open mind. I would be offended if someone found that unpleasant a picture of my wife and used it in that way.
We agree on the bottom line: Vote Trump. However, I'm willing to see Trump's many flaws too, and even to mention the ones that are hurting him today. It's lovely to imply that "Trump can win without Cruz", and that's probably true. However, Trump can also win with Cruz, almost certainly by a bigger margin. Given the level of fraud that criminals on the Democrat side are capable of, I'd rather have those extra votes.
Trump was far more out of line than Cruz (Trump did it himself, and the worst about Cruz in that exchange was that he wasn't vocal enough in condemning someone else's actions), so Trump should make the move to repair the damage. Trump is the candidate, so Trump should be the one to repair the damage. I get that some on FR don't like Cruz any more. I don't care. A lot of voters do - not more voters than like Trump, but enough voters to matter in November.
An unflattering factual PUBLIC picture is not an insult. Get over your myopia. An insult is calling her ugly when she is not. He did not call her ugly but posted side by side PUBLIC pictures. Nobody sane calls that an insult, but Cultists would.
“Ted Cruz is a False Prophet. The bible talks about those.”
I keep recalling the end of the meeting he had with the Texas delegates the morning after his speech. Just before he left the stage, the “smile” on his face and the evil look in his eye were chilling. That wasn’t the Holy Spirit gazing out behind his eyes.
I give up - we disagree.
Romney wasn't running and wasn't ever going to get in.
You're still a CRUZER and need to give it up. He is now loathed and reviled by EVERYONE, everywhere, except for his very few remaining cultists. He won't even be re-elected to his Senate seat in '18. And Cruz is even MORE of a baby and inept than Obama. So just forget about him; please.
Could also be simply one is happy and the other is married to Ted.
Apologized for what? If you ever apologized for something you didn’t do, you are a fool. What was the insult to Melania, anyway. No one cares about models posing in lingerie, except in a prurient way. What’s the big deal?
Trump was looking for an excuse to attack Ted at the time, and he found a flimsy one. The guy’s a crank, but he will probably become president, regrettably with my help.
Oh, no! Another one!
They never give up!
He gave the most charismatic, brilliant press conference today and it matters not to these idiots! I was gobsmacked by him - even Rush was verclempt! But here at our home on FR, there are still holdouts on the “vulgar” Donald! I guess The Cruz, bested by three rednecks in Indiana, is the real genius.
I think not.
Actually, you’re a crank.
I appreciate him showing his true colors so that we never have to worry about him becoming president again... EVER.
Are you saying Free Republic is not free?
“Are you saying Free Republic is not free?”
Not me, Jim Robinson, the owner and founder of this site. There are plenty of free-for-all sites, like Yahoo - but not here.
Jim let the process play out (and it did get nasty), but Trump was nominated, and the ultimate goal is to stop Hillary. So cutting down Trump doesn’t play well here.
I’ll be happy to ping him if you want.
Oh, yeah, a crank is one who envisions the next president of America while you languish in sorrow over the nasal, rat-faced, insincere phony from Texas. Yeah, I’ve got it.
That’s exactly the point! It’s not free and the owner views Hillary supporters as trash. You might as well beat it if you can’t abide by his rules.
Well, I am not Hillary supporter: not by a long shot. Point me to the rules, and I will follow them.
“If you are a NeverTrump type person, you are working against our purposes on FR, so please opus out now and log off and let us carry on with our mission in peace.
Continue insulting us with 24/7 anti-Trump diatribes and insults, your opus will be assumed.
