Ted Cruz on Thursday strongly defended his refusal to endorse Donald Trump during his Republican National Convention speech, saying he's not "in the habit" of backing politicians who attack his family.
The Texas senator sensationally withheld an endorsement of Trump in his speech Wednesday, earning a chorus of boos from the floor while getting upstaged in a power play by the GOP nominee himself.

Cruz only hurt himself by his idiotic performance.
I don’t think it matters anymore. Time to move on.
I posted this on the Cruz backers thread, but it works here:
Chiming in. Supported Cruz from the second Palin endorsed him for Senate. Then, all of a sudden, after two years of perfect ground game preparation, donor network establishment, and saying all the right things, he completely imploded just before the voting started.
Hooking up with that whack-job Beck.
Telling Carson supporters he had dropped out in Iowa.
Having that whack-job Beck issue the Oath of Office all the time.
Calling on Trump to release his IRS records, you know, the agency Ted said was tyrannical and he wanted to do away with.
Continuing to hang out with that whack-job Beck.
Releasing a tax plan that still required the IRS and added in the dreaded VAT.
Lying about lying on his SEC form regarding his Goldman-Sucks loan.
Claiming he didnt know he was a Canadian citizen.
From all accounts, obviously having an affair with a campaign staffer.
Staying in the primary race well past his sellout-by date.
Did I mention hanging out with that whack-job Beck?
And for his final act finale, dragging on for more than twice as long as he was scheduled (just like a liberal) and never endorsing the candidate despite his signed promise to do so.
I now feel insulted by him lying to me for several years about who he was, since all these things reveal a character flawed to the core, and Im so glad Trump had his mic cut last night.
Whatever, Ted. Could you please go away now? You have proved useless and irrelevant for the coming election battle, and the GOP needs to focus on beating Hillary rather than continuing to talk about you.
Agreed, as a former and I mean former supporter, I’m done with him. He has shown it’s all about him and hung himself publicly. Fool...
Which is worse? Publishing an unflattering picture of Heidi Cruz, or going around saying “Donald calls for violence at all his rallies”? Or, “Donald wants socialized, single-payer healthcare for all Americans”? Or, running for President when you are certainly not a natural born citizen, and may well be an illegal alien?
On March 3, 2016 Senator Ted Cruz told the FOX News debate audience he would support Donald Trump if he was the Republican nominee.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HC-B5n5pOmo (begin around 1:05)Bret Baier: Senator Cruz will you support Donald Trump if he is the nominee?
Senator Ted Cruz: Yes, because I gave my word I would. And what I have endeavored to do every day in the senate is do what I said I would do.
The guy has been exposed as a spoiled brat...me, myself and I kinda guy.
Terrible for the party, and even worse for the country.
Pride comes before the fall. Now....I am saddened by this, but it’s time to move on.
Ted’s core will be the crazy nevertrumpers. Ted will be the first to leave the contest.
Right before the CA primary, I think, Cruz said that Trump would destroy the Second Amendment.
Didn’t the Cruz camp start the whole “attacking the wives” fight by posting and tut-tutting about an old picture of Melania in the nude (but covered in all the key female areas)?
“The Nuclear Option: Ted Cruz Put Political Career Ahead of Country”
Attack his father.............did StCruz ever give us the whereabouts of his father during the time that photo was taken? No he didn’t did he?
He flew on AF1 with the head of the cop killing movement. He isn’t liked in the senate. His daughter doesn’t want him to hug her. He picked Beck as a help to his campaign. He help with his vote for TPP. He voted to let obamas radical judge pick thru.
His wife worked for Goldman Sachs. Now he is helping Hillary get into the White House.;
Ted, you started it, you were behind the hot Melania picture came out right before the Utah caucus.
” he’s not “in the habit” of backing politicians who attack his family “.....
Then why didn’t he say so when making the pledge. Since when does a pledge come with an out? It doesn’t.
KEEP DIGGING!
Both Cruz’s father and wife were active on the stump for Ted. They were and are “fair game” in politics.
