Katie wrote about Sen. Ted Cruzs address at the Republican National Convention in which received a standing ovation when he took the podium, but later walked off stage amidst boos and jeers. It was brutal. Cruz didnt endorse Trump last night, which drew the ire of the delegates and attendees. National Reviews Eliana Johnson reported earlier on Wednesday that Cruz had no intention of endorsing Trump, instead looking to the 2020 election. Cruz said that the party must unite, though Republicans should vote their conscience. It was not good.
The whole arena is booing Ted Cruz, who did not expressly endorse Donald Trump tonight. So much for party unity.— Jenna Johnson (@wpjenna) July 21, 2016
Now, we have The Washington Post reporting that after the speech, Cruz was denied entry into billionaire Sheldon Adelsons donor suite:
Ted Cruz was turned away from entering Sheldon Adelson's suite in the arena after the speech, @danabashCNN reports— Steve Brusk (@stevebruskCNN) July 21, 2016
Billionaires Sheldon and Miriam Adelson refused to let the senator from Texas enter their donor suite after his controversial address, according to a person familiar with the circumstances. CNN first reported the episode.
Cruz once said that he may not be the guy you want to have a beer with, but hed be the man who takes you home at the end of the night. Well, now hes the man whos in that position because he wasnt invited to the party. The Texas senator sees himself as a conservative rampart against a rising progressive tide. Hes made being an uncompromising conservative his brand. So, in a way, not endorsing Trump because hes not a conservative Republican falls in line with that mindset. Moreover, again, we all knew Cruz was going to do this. So, is he still staying true to his brand? Well, its sort of hard to say he is exactly doing that when he shamelessly cuddled up to the billionaire last December, calling him terrific. In the end, Trump won.
The Establishment's only hope: Trump & me in a cage match.
Sorry to disappoint -- @realDonaldTrump is terrific. #DealWithIt— Ted Cruz (@tedcruz) December 11, 2015
Oh, and another sign that Cruz was probably not going to endorse Trump dates back to his May 1 appearance on Meet The Press, where host Chuck Todd asked the Texas senator if Trump were to become the nominee, would he endorse him. Cruz gave a 772-word non-answer. Why? Well, he thought he was going to beat Trump of course.
Former Pennsylvania Rick Santorum criticized Cruz for going back on the party pledged to support the eventual nominee. So, Im sure this incident compliments the Lyin Ted moniker the Trump camp attached to the Texas senator like a barnacle.
Is this political suicide? Frank Luntzs focus group says otherwise. Its too soon to know, but if last night was Cruz laying the first building block to a 2020 runit was a total fiasco.

This is the worst political decision since Hamilton decided it would be a good idea to duel w/ Aaron Burr.
On the other hand, it was a stroke of genius for the Trump people.
If (remote as it may have been) Cruz had endorsed Trump, it would have been a positive for both (Trump +1, Cruz +1). If as what actually happened, Cruz refused to endorse Trump, it would still be a net positive for Trump (since he graciously let Cruz have the floor), but a big negative for Cruz (Trump +1, Cruz -1).
Ted Cruz is a dangerous, evil man.
He just did more to cement “lyin’ Ted” than anything Trump ever did.
I guess he really is Lying Ted.
Good for Shelly.
If I recall correctly the strike against Dewhurst was that he was mainstream, establishment GOP and not all that conservative. Surely there is someone in Texas better than that?

Ted Cruz-D[D-Bag]
I’m convinced Cruz wouldn’t have endorsed any of the other candidates if they’d won. Cruz is for Cruz and no one deserves his support.
Does Heidi Cruz have cancer?
There are some Cruz supporters, or Trump haters, who would never vote for Trump if Cruz got down on his knees and kissed Trump’s shoes. So, I don’t believe an endorsement would have helped him one bit. And I’m sure Trump had polls done showing that. So, he let him hang himself and at the same time made Trump look like the better man.
Ive seen his supporters brag how Cruz wont be tarnished after Trump gets defeated and will be next in line for 2020 which is laughable because they dont take into account their never Trump movement along with this unprecedented refuse to support from certain people in the party will be blamed and Trumps 14 million supporters can then return the favor and never support any of them.
Spent some time terrorizing the PooperScoopers ( I tried at RedState but they seemed to have banned me somehow ) and you know what they are saying?
Cruz won the primaries
Trump got only like 2+ million
12 million (D)ummies crossed over
... Yep. That is what they say ... This means that the (R) turnout was actually way down!
They also say that the RNC thwarted democracy by forcing delegates to vote according to primary results.
THEY ARE INSANE!
This is the worst political decision since Hamilton decided it would be a good idea to duel w/ Aaron Burr.
Good analogy.
The duel of course was the end of the story. The truth is that Hamilton, who had already been run out of Washington because HE HAD NO FRIENDS ( like Saint Ted ) and was seen as a Machiavellian manipulator and a throwback to the defeated loyalists. He came back here to NY and tried to exert influence in the Albany-NYC corridor where local political intrigue was already rampant. He promptly reignited the trouble he was involved in a decade earlier in the Burr and Clinton camps.
Burr was not just VP, but also a NY power broker and Hamilton set about becoming his greatest thorn and excelled mightily at it. Everytime he looked around, Hamilton was there. His pride and ego was too great to refuse the duel.
The real parallel is that Hamilton tried many things in the smokey backroom to get NY electoral college electors stripped ( it is VERY complicated ) to block Burr and of course Adams in 1800 and that was the most incredible election in our history. Hamilton was right in the middle of it and pity the poor guy because he actually forced himself to support and elect Jefferson, who was his mortal enemy in the Washington cabinet and who figured out Hamilton early on and left detailed writings about his experiences with him.
Long story short, and contrary to the lionization that Broadway is doing today, Hamilton was a great schemer and was as hated as Ted is today. Once his mentor George Washington left office in 1797 and died two years later he was alone in the wilderness.
As the only non Natural Born Citizen founder he is doubly linked to Ted Cruz, for Hamilton never really quite got what it meant to be free or an American ( liberty and a neutered minimal FedGov is what the Jeffersonian republicans pressed for ). Hamilton wanted unending Federal power and growth. He was rooted in British worship for centralized power. Furthermore, he was gung ho to be assigned colors and a regiment and desired to lead an Army against someone ( the French would do, failing that, Pennsylvania whiskey rebels would have to suffice ).
Compared to patriots like Franklin, Jefferson, Madison, Henry, Samuel Adams he was a tory, loyalist or even a traitor, and those that lived long enough to witness it said so explicitly. However, if he were alive today he would be repulsed by our leftists ( directly comparable to the old Federalist party ) and would be ashamed of what he started.
I knew he was completely nuts when he started lying about the little nine year old cop’s daughter in Dallas. I’ll bet most of it was made up. And it had nothing to do with his speech. In fact, I can’t get it through my head what all this “freedom this and freedom that” was all about. The great orator was rambling.
Perhaps he was saying to himself I am not endorsing him, which of course was wrong.
I guess my statement was a little badly worded, but I heard almost immediately after Cruz left the stage, that Heidi had been hustled out of the building and whisked away.
To me that said, "Get me out of here before I kill him"
I read today that a comped suite of rooms were not available to the Cruz's last night.
An endorsement would have made the people who do come over more enthusiastic. You could tell Trump was disappointed in Ted Cruz last night by the look on his face. He was out there to shake Cruz’s hand if he decided to endorse him.
“...stroke of genius for the Trump people...”
I agree. Brilliant. By allowing Cruz to speak they handed him the proverbial rope to hang himself with metaphorically and Cruz so foolishly went ahead and hung himself as far as political reputation forever because his ego was too big to even see what was happening.
He should have listened to Laura who gave him the correct advice earlier on but he was too full of himself to take it.
Checkmate Trumps.
