US military confirms it is investigating what could be one of the worst incidents of civilian deaths by coalition forces
At least 85 civilians, including almost a dozen children, have been killed after US air strikes targeted an area in northern Syria held by Islamic State (Isis/Daesh) fighters, a monitoring group has said.
Some eight families were reportedly wiped out in the IS-controlled village of Tokhar near Manbij on Tuesday (19 July), in what could be one of the deadliest bombings of civilians by coalition forces since the start of operations in the country.

The jihadis KNOW OUR RULES OF ENGAGEMENT and purposely USE OUR OWN ROE AGAINST US.
The enemy trains and teaches asymmetrical warfare all the time. They are better at it than we are. Including use of PR and social media.
We had no business being there in the first place.
Madeleine Albright should be hung from the neck for her crimes against the Serbian people.
And by using “protected” sites to conduct combat ops, they removed the protective status and the target can be hit. . all in accordance with the Law of Armed Conflict.
Oh, and how do you KNOW they were civilians? The don’t wear a uniform, they don’t have any standards of dress, weapons or behavior, and by the time the “investigators” arrive (anti-American UN-types), all weapons will be gone.
“when we started hitting schools and bridges to bring Serbia to its knees.”
Bridges are legitimate targets.
Knowing many pilots that flew missions there, they never were tasked to hit schools or other protected sites. To be ordered to would be a violation of LOAC and they would be in prison. And they have to know what they are dropping on so the weaponeers can select the proper ordnance to be loaded.
So, “hits” on schools and such were the result of all those SAM missiles being fired (from civilian population centers) at our aircraft, missing, and coming back to earth (where did they think their missiles would come down. . .Minneapolis?)
I totally agree. We had all of those problems in Iraq and in Afghanistan. I watched a man drop a weapon before capture by the Marines and swear to Allah that he had never seen that weapon before.
Raised from a child to lie first, then think if he wanted to tell the truth.
“Bridges are legitimate targets.”
Sorry, but I have trouble delineating ‘legitimate targets’ from other targets during an ILLEGITIMATE WAR. If someone can point to a SINGLE INSTANCE of where Serbia attacked us, or even threatened us, I might change my mind.
We had no GODDAM BUSINESS there, and if SAMs were fired, that was OUR FAULT for being there in the first place.
The Clinton Administration can go to hell.
The military is bound to execute all lawful orders. They do not have the authority to pick and choose their wars—and we don’t want them to.
Bottom line: the military hit legal targets.
Blanket blaming of the US?
That is usually the position of “San Francisco democrats.” (RIP Jeane Kirkpatrick)
I get your passion but do not get the anti-American tone and blame, and certainly don’t understand the “if” qualifier remark about SAMs, as SAMS were fired and did fall on their own people—fact. (I was part of a UK/US BDA and targeting team. Seen it from the ground)
Like I said, I get (and support) your Clinton loathing. I just don’t blame the military or the US.
Indeed.
Sadly, today we can’t fire on the guy even if he was seen shooting at us and slung the weapon over his shoulder and walked away.
Obama will blame obstructionist Republicans for this. All Syrian civilians would have been safely relocated to the US by now if it wasn’t for evil Republicans being so Islamophobic.
0bama’s fault.
Where is Code Pink?
Media Benjamin must be falling down on the job.
I crack me up.

“Blanket blaming of the US?”
How about you LEARN TO READ? My problem is with the LEADERSHIP of this country that BOMBED CIVILIAN TARGETS IN AN INNOCENT COUNTRY.
That is a WAR CRIME. As for the pilots, I would have preferred they stand up to this, but I understand that they would have been railroaded, so they’re stuck in middle.
So GET OVER IT. The people ON THIS SITE are not the people that spit on soldiers - believe it or not, not everyone does that.
Thank you for that irrational, emotional rant.
Good day.
“Thank you for that irrational, emotional rant.”
Sorry, but I wasn’t involved in the bombing of innocent Serbs. You guys need to GET OVER Vietnam, this was ENTIRELY DIFFERENT and the Serbs threatened NO ONE (other than a bunch of terrorists in Kosovo).
“Sorry, but I wasnt involved in the bombing of innocent Serbs.”
Again with the blanket anti-military indictment, accusing them of engaging in war crimes.
Vietnam? You have officially lost the plot.
Chill, relax, take it easy otherwise you are going to have a stroke.
So, you have a choice:
a) cave to your angry juvenile self to have the last word and respond as a petulant child would, or
b) take the high road, let it go, be an adult, recognize further exchanges are pointless.
I think you will choose option “a.”
Opt for choice “a,” prove me right.
Opt for choice “b,” prove me wrong.
Me?
I’m done, so if you do opt for choice “a” like I know you will, then you have a free shot.
Cheers.
Sorry, I won’t defend the BOMBING of INNOCENT CIVILIANS, regardless of who orders it or why. In Vietnam they weren’t innocent - as they were attacking us. Again, Serbia DID NOT attack or threaten us - unless you can show otherwise.
This country should NEVER ‘get comfortable’ with bombing innocent civilians for sport.
