It has been confirmed by Supreme Council of radio and television of Turkey (RTUK) the news that Mr. Erdogan – the president of Turkey has revoked 3213 national ham radio licenses. The HF radio in Turkey is now silent. No transmissions are allowed.

Following the coup d’etat – of July 5th – many things are changing in Turkey. TV , Radio licenses have been cancelled and this involved also our colleagues : ham radio amateurs. The number of amateur radio operators in Turkey is not too much, but according to the site TRAC.org it looks like that around 3000 licenses have been revoked. Who’s transmitting outside turkey without licence should be considered a pirate – said Mr Erdogan.

The Supreme Council of radio and television of Turkey (RTUK) has cancelled the licenses of over 20 radio and television broadcasters as well ham radio operators.

The Telsiz ve Radyo Amatörleri Cemiyeti (TRAC) is the national non-profit organization for amateur radio enthusiasts in turkey. The TRAC was founded in 1962 as the Türkiye Radyo Amatörleri Cemiyeti, adopting its current name in 1980. It’s located in Istanbul, with branches in 44 locations across Turkey. TRAC is the national member society representing Turkey in the IARU. Now, it has been closed down.

We look forward to have news from Turkey ham radio league.

More large numbers here... With Teachers being the largest affected numbers now we see a large number of shortwave radio operators.

VERY Telling

Turkey is far more of a dictatorship than it would have been had the military succeeded.

There was an eye doctor in my home town who ran a ham radio network for Christian missionaries. He was Dr. Wernerberg if that is the correct spelling. Although he was an Austrian Jew, he had converted to Christianity His network was the angel network.

He also bought radios for them which was a good idea as they would have sometimes been out of communications otherwise. At least back to the U.S. and the Southern Baptist Convention.

He would come up one week every Summer to Ridgecrest Baptist Assembly and I would meet him since we were from the same town and knew each other. I worked there on the rec crew and always got to see him during foreign missions week.

My Brother went to a school in New Orleans and got his first class radio operators license and then became the broadcast Engineer for Channel 10 in Mobil, then channel 13 in Panama City. Joe died early of a heart attack but we still had some fun with Ham radio.

Joe had a Zenith model which I can’t recall the name but it would bring in signals very clearly from all over the world.
I think he said it only had 6 tubes tho he said some were double use whatever that is.

I guess the internet is making inroads on ham,

Yes, I suppose it is. But I’m still one.

Not as active as I once was because of the internet.

But still have the gear, license, test equipment, parts and can fix things. Did my share of home brew building.

When despots disarm the public & cripple their ability to communicate you know that nation is in deep dooo.

You can send images via ham radio, Erdogan doesn’t want real time images of genicide going out to the world -Obama agreed.

Didn’t see Angel network but I suspect Dr. Wennerberg has been deceased for many years. Now that I think about it, he would have to be in his early 100s. Possible but not likely.

I just remembered my Brother’s Zenith short wave. It was a Trans Oceanic. For such a few tubes it sure did sound great and received very clearly.

So they cannot tell the world what is happening once it begins...this is the most serious thing in the world right now and we have 2000 servicemen there without power or decent food for five days now.

Erdogan is an evil psychopath.

The other military coups in Turkey were to restore a secular government; ie they were GOOD.

Erdog is a psycho mozlem who thinks he’s the answer to some prophecy or something. Turkey is turning into Iran.

You are correct. Trans Oceanics had the tube “presence” in the audio. they had to minimize the tube version many were used on battery only. The more tubes, the more current.

I still have several tube rigs. My favorite is my Collins Twins. 75S-3 32S-3 with accessories. Incredibly smooth and stable PTO.

There is a commenter responding to the source article, claiming that he is a resident of Turkey (and seems to be a radio hobbyist). He maintains that this news is fake.

Of course, the PTB would use a ploy exactly like that, so...

I guess the HAMS here will have to key up and talk to people in Turkey.

Lets see if anyone out there will confirm this ?

The TRAC site (ARRL of Turkey) says nothing, but no other news source are out there as the net has been shut down in Turkey...

I’m considering a pair of Yaesu C4FM 144/432 hand helds. Voice and data capable. I have an Extra class. My wife has a Tech+. Our last Standard Vx6 radios were too complex and batteries failed rapidly. Not much of an HF fan. The Atlas 215XL has rately been used. Packet radio and transmitter hunts were fun, but have done little of either since the late 80’s
