CLEVELAND (AP) -- Sen. Ted Cruz's Texas-size political ambitions will be on full display Wednesday as the primary runner-up delivers a prime-time convention speech, but holds off on a full-throated endorsement of Republican nominee Donald Trump.
The conservative senator repeatedly clashed with Trump during a bitter primary fight, with the New York businessman mocking the lawmaker as "Lyin' Ted." With an eye toward 2020, Cruz's team drafted a convention speech focusing on adherence to the Constitution, a calling card for conservatives and a perceived contrast with Trump.
Cruz has not endorsed Trump despite pleas for party unity from the campaign and party officials. Nor is he expected to in his speech, which was carefully screened by Trump campaign officials, the senator's aides said.

Agree. As I put it on Twitter, Ted Cruz poured high obtain gas gas all over himself then whipped out a Ronson on national TV.
I have a feeling you may have reconsidered that bet, after tonight.
Welcome to the club. He fooled a lot of us, including me.
Ditto
It isn't clear to Amanda Carpenter, who is delivering the opposite message. The message Amanda is delivering, and it is supported by Cruz's speech which is ambiguous, is that people should vote up and down ticket on principle (and she outright says that means rejecting Trump).
Your clear impression isn't shared by all, and IMO, not by many. I don't think your firm testimonial will persuade anybody at all.
Transcript of Ted Cruz's Speech, for anybody who wants to review what Cruz said.
I agree. Any effort to maintain Cruz meant vote against Hillary and for Trump when Cruz said vote, vote your conscience, and vote up and down the ticket. The MSM is saying the ambiguity INTENTIONALLY meant NOT to vote for Trump because it so obviously was Trump’s convention.
I cannot prove the MSM is wrong with what they are saying.
If you’re offering a toast for the groom at a wedding and all yoy say is, “Here’s to all the good men who are in the bride’s life.”, then you’ve intentionally left out the groom’s name.
Will he endorse libertarian or constitution party candidate?
Are you really trying to make the case that lessening our ability to make things for ourselves makes us safer and more prosperous?
Did you hear the Cruz follow up about, “it was all about my family.”
My sense is that he’s ridiculous about Heidi. As I recall, at worst Trump said she wasn’t all that compared with Melania. Besides, Cruz’s spokesperson was on the air about the Melania pictures a week or more before Trump ever said anything. So, that’s just silliness and he knows it.
Additionally, the father as a Cuban agent thing went as far as “What is that all about?” by Trump. That’s the extent of his accusation about Ralph Senior.
So, Cruz is suddenly regretful about his failure to endorse?
I doubt it seriously. He’s just in CYOA mode.
Thanks, xzins. I can’t say that I’m shocked at his performance, but very disappointed, nevertheless.
Yes I am saying that. If we still made most of our televisions, VCRs, radios, small plastic toys, etc. in the USA then we would be an economic cesspool, relative to where we are now.
What about all the people who used to make those things who haven’t been able to find jobs in years?
Wandering the homeless camps, thinking to themselves “At least we’re not in an economic cesspool”.
Where are your cries for the farmers put out of work by mechanization of farming? What about the plight of the blacksmith? What about the thousands of switchboard operators who lost their jobs? How many cobblers need to lose their jobs before something is done?
The fact is everything we know and make now will eventually in some way be obsolete for a whole host of reasons.
For every product we don’t make anymore there is a NEW product or service to replace it. And those of marginal intellect will usually be on the outside looking in when it comes to innovation.
